"I cannot teach anyone anything. I can only make them think." - Socrates
I work as a teacher. But I believe teachers are first and foremost enablers. There's not really any point forcing stuff into someone's head. Even if they remember it, they'll later forget. My job is to facilitate my students' own drive to learn, not to actually "teach" them anything.
Other notable mentions that come to mind are:
"Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel." - Socrates (I almost wrote this one instead of the above)
"Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid." - Albert Einstein
"He who binds to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy
He who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity's sunrise"
-William Blake
"Time you enjoyed wasting, was not wasted." - John Lennon
