Currently, we are awaiting my daughter's test results.

No one else has symptoms in the household and there was a positive case that was confirmed two days ago. She is not severely ill or anything like that, but has a lot of symptoms. I thought it was fifth's disease at first (which is extremely common and doesn't usually warrant a doctor visit), but it isn't progessing like fifth's disease.

My work said that if I wasn't a confirmed case, then I could not take time off (my boss sidestepped it and said I could work remote and in so many words said that I wasn't expected to work my full 40). My husband's work told him he can't work until he gets the results back because my daughter had direct contact with a positive case.

If you want to know why it is ravaging the US, this would be why. I could just quit and live off my husband's salary (and they know it) so I feel comfortable pushing the envelope a bit (plus my boss announced her retirement and has the "what are they going to do? Fire me?" Mentality), but even at the corporate level, people are still expected to work sick - even in a pandemic.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

I don't know how many are aware of this but the company that makes the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine said it will be supplied at cost price to poorer countries during the pandemic. I wouldn't call that money grabbing.

Oops the positive case was at the daycare. I probably should have said that.

And, I am all for keeping the economy open in a safe way. How we are operating is not safe by any stretch of the imagination.

The other part of it is that when you go for a test, you have to wait 24 to 72 hours to get a result when they are not overwhelmed. So when someone has symptoms and goes to get a test, many are still required to get a positive case to take off work. In other words, people who are showing symptoms still have to work 24 to 72 hours after getting a test where they are checking for COVID. It is insanity.

I said it in the last thread - this is going to spread like wildfire through the US due to our work culture. And, it is indeed doing just that and nothing is changing.

I always have issues interpreting slay's posts, but I assumed he was talking about the economy.

I was scratching my head about Fifth Disease, never heard of it so consulted Friend Google.
We call it "Slapped Cheek Syndrome" over here because the rash looks rather like ... slapped cheeks! It's fairly common over here in young kids.

Here we can get a Lateral Flow Test if you have no symptoms (but think you might have been in contact) and the results take about 30 minutes.

The PCR test, for people with symptoms, gets sent off to a Lab and can take up for 3 days but is usually quicker.

So pretty much in line with the waiting times in America, it would seem.

Insisting on attendance at work whilst awaiting results varies greatly from employer to employer, there doesn't seem to be any specific 'rule' about this so far as I can make out.

Our 'R' rate continues to decrease but I expect it'll be going up again soon due to lockdown restrictions easing and imported variants that current vaccines cannot capture. Inevitable really, I suppose.

Just got back from 2nd dose of Moderna vaccine. I am beginning to feel like Sally from Nightmare before Christmas - my arm fell off again and they had to sew it back on.

Just teasing. I did not feel a thing but my arm was bleeding a bit.

Glad to have both doses. In two weeks my daughter is taking me to the zoo to see the baby tigers!

@Averia Light - Your poor little girl having to go through the test, not a nice thing to go through, especially for a young child. Take care, all of you..

It was negative, but i guess it is impacting kids a lot mote this time around..
