Full 48 hours since I had my second jab and no "feeling a bit flu-like" symptoms, as I had with the first jab. So happy about that :)

Also no visible reaction at the injection site apart from slightly sore. Last time I had swelling and redness for about 10 days.

So - that's me done and dusted then. The Surgery said there may be a top-up jab available heading towards Winter which they hope will encompass at least some of the foreign variants.
I'll definitely be signing up for that one as and when it comes out.

Fortunately, I'm not a person who suffers from any specific allergies so I have no worries on that score. Well, I am very allergic to the metal Nickel but that's irrelevant in this case.

xBlue Rosesx,
Everyone obviously has a choice but we as human beings assess risk every single day. Is it safe to go outside? Is it safe to eat unhealthy food? Can I cross the road without being hit by traffic?

What's important is *fully* understanding that risk and putting it in context against other things. Only an extremely small fraction of a % of doses resulted in these cases of blood clots. It's extremely rare.

In context, you're more likely to experience a blood clot from just catching Covid naturally, from smoking, taking birth control pills, and many more things humans do on a day to day basis yet continue to do them.

So if you want to purely base it on risk, then you'd go with the option that poses the least amount of risk. In addition, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines haven't experienced any cases of blood clotting (correct me if I'm wrong?) so those are also an option.

In terms of how long this took to develop, no phases were skipped, they just overlapped the different phases, that's all. Technology gets better and things improve over time.

And as far as the efficacy (at least with Pfizer and Moderna) has been extremely good.

So ultimately, there are those who can't have these vaccines (due to allergies etc) so it's up to everyone else who doesn't suffer from any allergies to step up and take the vaccine to add to that level of protection for everyone.

The reason the vaccines were developed so quickly is because the NIH and UT Austin had already identified a candidate protein configuration ("2P&quot ;) as part of their research into developing a vaccine for MERS. I'm not sure about Oxford/AZ, but BioNTech/Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J all use the 2P mutation to stimulate an immune response.

In other news, I had my 2nd dose of the Moderna vaccine on Saturday and felt perfectly fine afterwards. I slept poorly and still have some redness at the injection site but it was otherwise identical to the experience I had with the first dose (soreness and swelling).

India is being added to the list of "red" countries when people flying into the UK must quarantine in a government approved hotel for 10 days. This is due to almost 100 cases of the "Indian" variant being found in the UK. What I don't understand is why the requirement to quarantine isn't being brought into force until Friday. Surely this gives people time to rush back possibly bringing more cases of the variant that won't be in monitered quarantine.I think they still have to isolate at a known address ( but there are those who won't bother ). I realise people already due to arrive soon after the announcement wouldn't have time to arrange anything so some leeway is needed but why wait until Friday?

Sharing some information on vaccines and allergies.

wusa9.com/article/news/verify/can-i-get-covid-vacccine-if-i-have-food-allergies-can-get-covid-19-vaccine-coronavirus-egg-shellfish-milk-allergy-pfizer-moderna-sulfa-allergies-covid/65-07d592fb-764a-4c9a-bdf6-d4a5236665e3

Highlights:

SOURCES:

Dr. Linda Nabha, Infectious Diseases Expert with the University of Pittsburgh
Dr. Namandje Bumpus, Professor and Director of the Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences at Johns Hopkins University
And the CDC's allergy information page

ANSWER:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a fact sheet on its website with all the currently known information about allergies and vaccines.

The CDC recommends " that people get vaccinated even if they have a history of severe allergic reactions
NOT related to vaccines or injectable medications
—such as food, pet, venom, environmental, or latex allergies. People with a history of allergies to oral medications or a family history of severe allergic reactions may also get vaccinated.”

Dr. Namandje Bumpus and Dr. Linda Nabha both agree. They told us that food allergies are not contraindicated with the vaccine, and say there is no reason a shellfish, egg, milk, etc. allergy should keep you from getting your COVID-19 vaccination.

According to the CDC website and our experts, you don't need to worry about allergies to food when considering vaccination. However, if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the vaccines, like polyethylene gylcol (PEG) or polysorbate, the CDC suggests consulting with a doctor before receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.
