Some people do eat too much meat. I could never eat a 12 oz steak and even 8 oz in one go is too much. I cook using the principle that a serving of meat is 4 oz ( raw weight ). I don't need to eat meat every day but if I cook a vegetarian meal I don't use "meat" tasting alternatives. There's so many delicious recipes that don't use the artifical flavoured substitutes. I used to make a courgette ( zucchini ) roulade but when my son became vegetarian I gave him my veggie recipe books.
I can sort of see why a full time vegetarian might want to have the taste of meat but tbh they aren't going to get it from most of the products offered as tasting like the real thing. I also think to get that meat like taste has got to mean chemicals are added because basic seasoning and herbs won't be enough.

With taste being completely subjective and relative to each individual person, if a veggie doesn't eat meat then the Beyond type products could very well taste just as good for them as they're not eating meat side by side to compare. :)

It's why I never truly trust my wife (who's vegan) to be the sole judge on if something is convincing or not :P She hasn't eaten meat in I don't know how long so her ability to compare and judge I expect is not the most accurate :P

When we got some of the new Beyond nuggets last weekend, I had to try them for myself as she said they were really convincing chicken nuggets and in that instance, they were indeed really convincing.

I had vegan burgers a while ago and they were terrible.

I think they will get better over time. They need to make them tasting like meat.

Have you tried either of the Beyond Meat or Impossible burgers? They're unbelievably accurate, and have an extremely convincing flavour and texture.

Gross.

You can't put lawnmover detritus between two buns, slap an egg yolk on it and call it a hamburger.

'Beyond Meat', yeah it's beyond something all right.

Yeah I'd reserve judgement until tasting them. I was unsure too, but they're very convincing.

My wife works at a local coffee shop that, for a while, was trialing this "Beyond Meat" crap.

They were discontinued after I believe six (six!) days due to poor sales.

She tried one of these Beyond Meat sandwiches they were trialing. She took literally one bite and spat it out.

But hey, if you like 'em, then go hard.

that surprising considering the amount of restaurants in US and UK that have taken on beyond meat and are doing very well.

Yeah, in the countries Beyond has now expanded to (which in of itself shows demand and success) it's doing extremely well so while it may not be to everyone's taste, they're certainly doing something right. :P

Have you tried one of their burgers or sausages BBQ'd? Or the mince in tacos for example. You might be surprised.

^It sounds to me from looking online and on this thread that these people that make Beyond Meat etc are making a good product that a lot of people like. I haven't tried them yet.

There is also a burger called The Impossible burger made by Burger King in NZ that is plant based. Again I haven't tried it.

I hadn't tried Impossible until a few weeks ago, it's harder to come by in Canada at the moment but I guess not for long.

But a bar I had food at had it so thought I'd try it and compare to Beyond. Was pretty decent actually. I still think I prefer Beyond but I'd have to try Impossible a few more times to judge properly.
