Have you tried either of the Beyond Meat or Impossible burgers? They're unbelievably accurate, and have an extremely convincing flavour and texture.
I haven't and I dont think you can get them here. But I guess there is something similar.
I do want to start eating more vege based diet.
if you can get them, they are very good. i still do prefer and do eat actual beef burgers etc but when i have tried them they are good
I like vegan burgers from fast food, but the plant taste is a bit to get used to. Store I been to sells vegan sausages I might buy and get someone to cook and share later. Hopefully they're good.
My youngest son and his wife are vegetarian. My son was brought up as an omnivore but became vegetarian several years ago, his wife has always been a vegetarian. They came to stay so I cooked them a vegetarian "chicken" roast. It was revolting! They said it was good which proved to me my son had forgotten what
if you want something to taste like meat--cook meat. I think it's kinda hypocritical for vegans to want food to taste like meat-rather silly. I wouldn't want meat to taste like beans. Egads

I get where you're coming from. I had a very similar view years ago as well, believing that if you choose to be vegetarian or vegan then don't eat meat substitute products.
But this isn't a binary thing. There's a number of reasons people could be vegetarian or vegan. Some will dislike the taste of meat regardless whether it's real or plant based so wouldn't eat it anyway and that could dictate their choice in preference. Others who choose their preference out of animal welfare or environmental reasons doesn't automatically mean they hate the taste of meat, there's also plenty who still love the taste and there's obviously a large market for it because companies like Beyond & Impossible (just to name two) have done extremely well over the past couple of years.
Personally, I really like the beyond sausages and prefer them over pork sausages and have them in pasta regularly. I actually tried the Beyond chicken nuggets on Saturday from a food truck promoting them since they're new - honestly, tasted like a chicken nugget lol

ironically for something to actually taste like meat, meat would have to be consumed to compare it

Some people really like meat but eat too much of it and want to incorporate more vege based food products into their diet. So I dont think its hypocritical of them.
