This is partly related to inflation as well -- businesses don't want to discount items deeply when their own costs of production are rising rapidly
Businesses have been using the tactic for many years even when inflation was low. Its used to fool customers into thinking they are getting a bargain when they aren't.
I managed to get the WD Black 2TB PS5 SSD (Official) for £187.99. I think it must have been very rare deal as it wasn't even caught by the price tracker. A decent saving as the lowest price recorded was £202.49.
I also got a Fire TV Stick 4K Max for £37.99, but they're going on sale all the time. That's actually £1 more, because according to the tracker, their lowest price was £36.99 towards the end of 2021.
Technology wise, the best deal I saw this year was the Xbox Series S for £189.00.

I dont know exactly how inflation works, but here in NZ we are advised to cut back on our spending from since before Black Friday and leading up to Christmas because of inflation.
I guess this advice is not so good for businesses.
