I'm fluent in English (my native language) and Czech.

As a result, I also understand quite a bit of other Slavonic languages (Polish, Slovak, Slovene, Russian, Bulgarian), and speak a little French and German.

Seems like mandarin chinese is becoming stronger (at least in the business world) but english keeps a stronger presence throughout the world, in a vast array of mundane and technical aspects concerning work, studies and leisure. I've to admit that in order to survive nowadays, you need to at least be able to comprehend the enclosed instructions to use a toaster :P

English is by far the world's most commonly spoken second language. This is why it is indeed the lingua franca around the world, and will remain so for a long time to come.
