I agree that that episode was probably the worse of the entire run of the series, and Beth was quite annoying in it. But on the flip side you have to remember she just saw her father beheaded right before her eyes, believes her sister to also be either lost or dead, and was just displaced from the only home and friends she knew for a while. Maybe she just didn't care anymore? Maybe it wasn't so much about her wanting to try drinking, as more to just wanting to forget for a moment.
