China would have no control over anything if a war broke out. The U.S navy rules the worlds oceans and would block China off from international commerce. Sure, global trade would be severely disrupted, but only for as long as it takes companies and other countries to shift their trade from China and towards other places.
Taiwan is also not as vulnerable as you seem to imply. Even without U.S support the geography of Taiwan would provide their forces with a massive tactical advantage, and if China does manage to take Taiwan, they would most likely lose a large percentage of their professional soldiers that would be required to do a lot of the hard work.
