He is one of the best villains turned anti-hero turned protagonist ever, and has a really deep character development later in the series.

Oh, and he can throw buildings and tank nukes without flinching :3

As far as cartoons it's definitely Twilight Sparkle from MLP, as for anime it'd be Edward Elric from FMA.

Cartoon it has to be Fluttershy from MLP, can relate to her so much and is just downright cute :3. For anime it's Death the Kid from Soul Eater, I mean come on, symmetry obsession to the max=same here

Since you bring up Avatar:TLA, I'll vote Aang.

It's something about how being the incredibly powerful world savior, while still being that optimistic 12 year old. All that power is such a burden on him, and the character development that occurs very smoothly over the 3 seasons was just such an amazing story to watch unfold. From the nightmares towards the beginning, where he's terrified of the avatar spirit, all the way to the end, where he overpowers it.

edit: Wait, people are separating it into anime and cartoons? Let that count as my anime, and for cartoons,

Fluttershy

, for being the most relateable, and adorable, pony. Headcanon Haven, where everything is made up and the points don't matter.

Hmm tough one. Ill name a few of my favorites.

Batman- C'mon, he's Batman need I explain more?

Superman- THE BIG BLUE BOY SCOUT! The overpowered yet moral superhero we all strive to be like.

Goku- Pretty much the Japanese Superman with long flowing blonde hair...and energy blasts with the circumference of a planet.

Kenshin- Actually this guy is pretty darn awesome. Someone who kills tens of thousands of men vows never kill again, uses a reverse blade sword, protects the people he loves, develops from an assassin to a true warrior with honor, while still managing to kick anyone's butt he wants.

Deathstroke- The man with a plan for everything. So skilled and professional in everything he does that even Batman has trouble with him. And get this, he only has one eye! If Batman respects him, then so do I.

Wolverine- Metal bones, half a dozen pigstickers, some kind of grow-a-new-ass superpower, the damage he can take and deal makes this guy a walking arsenal.
