I was forced to read the book in High School, the book was dumb.
The girl commits suicide because she feels bad about not stopping someone getting raped at a high school party
Well, that's the gist of it. There's other, smaller reasons as well.

13 Reasons Why is a pile of shit. It's just a rigmarole over nothing (especially after I saw the spoiler on Goat's post), and they tried to style it like a rehashed Saw movie. I watched it with a friend of mine from college and she said it was a lot like Pretty Little Liars, which she said was also absolutely crap. Save yourself, don't watch it.
In fact, I'm steering clear of Netflix in general for a while now.

There was only a couple of books during school that I actually enjoyed. One of them was called "Holes" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holes_(novel))
Another was called "Hatchet" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatchet_(novel)
And lastly, my favorite one was called "Night", if you've never read it before I would highly recommend it but it is quite sad. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_(book) )
