Totally agree. I think you have just very cleverly and expressively put into words how it makes me feel also.
If used as a form of torture to get me to spill the beans over something secret I would probably only hold out for a couple of minutes before I would tell them everything and more just to switch it off.

Jazz seems to be split into two camps - there's that awful "freestyle" stuff (can't think of the right term sorry) where it's just a cacophony, often accompanied by lyrics that go skiddleybeebobbebopdodoOOOOObeweeEEEEaaaaaa!
Then there's what I call (again, probs not the right term) classic jazz - Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong et al. Some of that stuff is lovely.
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

^ You philistine!
Go on to youtube and look up 'Yoko Ono and John Zorn: Improvisation'
I defy anyone not to thoroughly enjoy that.
Sure, it could do with being a teensy bit more melodic but omg the creativity!
Edit: For once, the comments on youtube are worth reading

That's probably the worst thing I've ever heard in my life.

Aye, it's the first type that makes me grind my teeth and want to scream.
The second type we've always called Trad Jazz (as in, traditional) which, although I'm not a fan, I can listen to. Indeed, some musicians made it sound good ... Acker Bilk with 'Stranger on the Shore' for instance.
I've seen that clip of Ono & Zorn before - jayzuz what a pile of shite. And muppets applauding it ... wut?
