The GP thing does seem to be everywhere, it's certainly the case in my area.
I had a phone appointment a few weeks ago and have to say that it's such a logical idea... unless of course you need to be physically examined,
@ Fifi ... as for them suggesting you go to A&E, you should definitely consider it.
A family member was given similar advice a few weeks ago so they (reluctantly) went to A&E only to discover they were the only person there and got seen immediately.
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?
It's just not something I'd contemplate doing, Rooh, except in extremis.
Here in the heavily populated South East I can't conceive of an A&E being virtually empty. We've only got 2 Hospitals to choose from which are within an hour's travelling (all the other A&Es have been closed due to cut-backs), and they serve an enormous catchment area.
As a person who was written to at the outset of lockdown, by NHS England, and advised to strictly self-isolate as I was classified as "highly vulnerable" I now find it bizarre I'm being pretty much forced to sit with numerous other people, potentially for many hours, in a busy public place.
Certainly restrictions have now eased but there are definite signs now of an upsurge in the infection rate again.
Added to which - if it is considered fine for beleaguered A&E staff to directly see people I fail to see why GPs (also NHS staff) feel the need to continue to hide behind telephones in their locked premises.
My biggest concern are those unfortunate enough not to own a means of transport. My village has a bus once an hour, none on Sundays. That takes 40 minutes to get to the nearest hub where one may catch a bus to elsewhere. Or one could then catch a train, then another bus, which hopefully stops somewhere near the Hospital.
That's not great news for anyone with a sick kid, is elderly or has mobility issues. Not everyone can afford a Taxi or has local family to help out.
@Fifi @Rooh - I just checked the website of a GP practice near me and it said they were seeing people in person for urgent issues only and doing telephone consultations for everything else. I was under the impression this was what happened in all of England.
Edit: anyone seriously know who S Palpatine is though?
