I can understand people panicking if there's a gas/petrol shortage, people need to get about.

But really, how many toilet rolls do you need? People are buying dozens at a time.
The only thing that's created the shortage is the shortage itself: "oo people are buying all the toilet rolls, I must stock up!"
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

As I said earlier people panic buy and then there are those that buy because they are scared there will be none left for them. I put a video in one of my threads where there was a physical fight over toilet paper - one lady had a trolly filled with packets of toilet paper and the other lady just wanted one packet. I went to the supermarket yesterday to find all my favourite brand was sold out <- never seen this and this other brand that I like was around $3NZ more than the usual price which means supermarkets are going to make a profit out of this virus :@

Panic buying. In the 80's they ran out of coke. 90's they ran out of gas. 2020 they run out of toilet paper. Whats next?

And hand sanitizer - I went to buy some yesterday and they had run out - my family are doomed :P ^_^

I think that this might settle down now, as most of the retailers including the one for which I work are now limiting all of these items to two or three per customer, and for the first time in the last couple of weeks there were quite a few toilet rolls left on the shelf when I left work today.

One of the more worrying runs on items is the complete sell out of Calpol and childrens medications, it is a shame that a child that really needs it now may not be able to have any because people are stocking up on it..

It's really selfish behaviour, they don't think about people who might want to buy stuff because they've actually run out, they're just thinking "I need enough toilet rolls to last me for six years!"

I just wish I'd bought shares in Andrex :P

I read an article where a woman was being abused for buying so much toilet paper - it turns out she needed it for her family of 16 and it's the usual weekly amount she buys, she also stated she's going to struggle with the toilet paper limit. She also stated she didn't need to explain her situation to the abuser's.

That situation is understandable but I think she's one of a very few who need to buy that much from a supermarket.
Places like hotels and other commercial premises usually buy from wholesalers.

People are just panicking and buying way more than they need.

Wondering if I should pick up allergy meds soon as there might become a shortage of that too if people are stocking up.
Was told the allergy season is due to start earlier than usual due to global warming, though I thought I would have a couple months wait I'm not affected by the various tree pollens that is due soon, but grass pollen which usually isn't due until june normally.
