I wonder if young people today even know of the game.
Up until a few years ago, I used to teach children to play Ringers. I can't remember a single child that did not love playing marbles.

I also played marbles with my brothers and often won.

At primary school, marbles was a game only the boys played, which was annoying. We girls had to make do with skipping, French skipping, and a ball game we called 'Twosies' as it involved two tennis ballls.

My children didn't play marbles at school; I suspect H&S rules would have banned them if they had taken them to school. At home, marbles were most often employed in the 'Marble Run' we used to construct.

Marbles hurt when used as projectiles - one brother was usually a sore loser, although it was the rest of us that got the sore patches!
