The kids aren't a problem.

Hell, my step-niece actually showed gratitude (albeit, limited gratitude due to her playing soccer at the time and had to focus on the field) for the cake she got for her bday party (ma made it, I put the frosting (Vanilla and Strawberry marshmallow)) and the gift I gave her (2 boxes of Jolly Rancher Green Apple Pop Tarts). She was also told there would be Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream for her when she comes over next (her favorite).

I'll still do things for her because she is at least grateful for what she gets.
