Critic as in critical and analytic, not critic as in the job in which your expected to carry a similar mindset. Also, I've not yet begun to break out the dictionary, my vocabulary has always been large and I've always made a point of using words that demonstrate my meaning as clearly as I can (which is one of he biggest strengths of the English language after all, the communication of ideas) so I have a hard time keeping my writing simple, I speak the same way, not doing it on purpose. Also also, I'm always serious, for me being serious and having fun are largely the same thing, debates about opinions and such (you think this one is serious and wordy, try getting me involved in a discussion on the Second Amendment).

Now go back and read what I actually wrote. Also, on the 'it doesn't hurt me' thing, put it this way. Seeing the homeless on the street doesnt directly affect me either, but I still want to give them money and at least put them up in hostel for the night becasue I know how cold the streets of Bristol are at night, but at the same time I wish they would just get clean shaven and apply for a job so then they could get paid and rent a house etc etc. Same deal.

well this is a place to discuss, not debate. we're all entitled to our own opinions. you like what you want to like and we'll like what we want to like.

A discussion and a debate are much the same thing, and a forum is a place for both. The only difference is that in a discussion neither party has a specific opinion, where as in a debate they do. You know what they say, if you cant handle other peoples opinions, dont use the internet, because we cant all be expected to hold hands and agree on everything. Especially true for anime, I have yet to some across a fandom which is more opinionated and less inclined to change their mind once set in their ways. If you dont want to discuss something anymore, cease to feed the conversation, deflect the topic or gain the initiative.

Of course, Ide also like to note that this debate to which you have taken such offense (which seems odd to me) has given this topic far more traffic in the course of a few hours than it would have seen for a week under less contentious circumstances, and more meaningful traffic than it accrues in the space of about 3 months. This is what we NEED, people. You want a topic to move, then you gotta bring something to talk about to the table.

i didn't come here to argue with you or anyone else about 'mainstream' manga/anime and how it's 'corrupting' people. i came here to state what manga i loved to read and that's it. :p i don't want to debate about anything, seeing as i do this enough over in the future game updates forums. lol

And yet the only thing you've done since coming here is debate (not to mention clutter the thread with unnecessary block quotes). You and your words are saying completely different things.

i sense much anger in you. lol and I've only been doing that because jesse feels the need to bash others for no reason. everyone's entitled to their own opinion and quite frankly if you don't have something nice to say then don't say it at all.

I'm seriously starting to believe that you are 'retarded. Nobody here is angry, we are simply trying to enlighten you about the existence of anime outside of the shonen genre. This is because shonen fans, such as yourself, only want to discuss the "Big Three" and don't realize that much better shows exist. Just because a manga been running for a long time doesn't make it objectively good. It means one thing, and one thing only: it sells well . Why on earth would anyone want to kill the goose that lays golden eggs?

Unfortunately, it seems you are one of these delusional fans who is completely set in his ways. Rather than explain why you like these shows (apart from vague comments like "lmao i loved this anime" ) you've done nothing but ignore everything Jesse was explaining. Seriously, it's like you read one of his posts and your eyes glaze over because he doesn't think One Piece or Bleach is good. This has got to be one of the worst cases of willful ignorance I've ever seen. You're like a ditch digger who only digs with his hands even though there's a perfectly good shovel next to him. All he's ever known how to do is dig with his hands, so he doesn't try using the shovel because he's content with his current situation. You grew up reading shonen and now your mind has been irreparably damaged.

If you want to turn this verbal pummeling into an actual discussion, you should probably start explaining why you like certain shows instead of hand-waving away the criticism.

I really liked claymore, the anime was under funded but still amazing imo. The manga's something else. I wish they would come out with a second season :(
"Why are you posting threads, asking questions and making discussion???"

It's often people who are angry that call others angry, so as to delude themselves to the fact that they're getting mad over something trivial. It's simple psychology, but I guess there's not much of that going on in your mainstream shounen anime.

I've read through Jesse's posts, there's been no bashing, only criticizing (no, they're not the same thing). You've also given us no real reason to accept these opinions of yours as you haven't adequately explained why these anime are good for you (no, "They're cheap and have been with me forever" isn't an adequate explanation) nor disproven our theory (though it's practically a law at this point) that these anime rot the brains of the viewers (aka spread cancer).

In short, you've given your opinion no leg to stand on. How are we supposed to accept an opinion like that?
