SnK is still overrated regardless of episode 21.

Red Data Girl was good. The reason for some people giving it low scores was because they lack brain power to comprehend it. That's understandable since it was a baffling show, if you take it for face value then I suppose it was pretty uneventful. You have to look deeper into it and understand what's going on behind the scenes. Although that type of stuff isn't everybody's cup of tea, so whether or not you'd like it, I haven't a clue. I gave it a 7/10 which is above my average score.

What are your personal thoughts on SnK to consider it overrated? I say it's not and deserves all the popularity it gets. The animation is great most of the time, the plot is interesting, the action scenes are intense, main characters die often and the enemies actually pose a big enough threat (which is nice after watching plenty of anime where the good guys always win with some bs), the soundtrack is magnificent, the openings are great, and episodes are paced appropriately. The only thing I disliked about SnK was Eren's stubborn attitude in the first half of the show, but that has changed a bit. So once again, how is it overrated? (an honest question)

SnK, according to MyAnimeList, is considered the 9th greatest anime of all time. 9TH. OF ALL TIME.

How did it to such high a score? Its simple, really. Mainstream anime watchers -i.e. people who ONLY watch things such as Naruto, Bleach, etc, you know where I'm going with this. SnK gained popularity because of the things you mentioned, great animation, "interesting plot," intense action, and a good OST. Those are the only things these simpletons care about, so its instantly rated "10/10 epic best animu ever lolol XDDD." So we have these types of people whom SnK caught their attention, they spread the word, other narutards flocked to it, and now SnK hatched a cult following that is exponentially increasing and driving up the score, much like Sword Art Online when that was airing. SnK isn't nearly as bad as SAO though. On to my thoughts...

The animation is great- ok, sure I'll agree with that. Although quality of animation doesn't affect my scoring. "The plot is interesting" is purely opinion based, sure I suppose it's interesting, albeit it isn't anything original nor groundbreaking. The action scenes are intense, yeah cool eye candy, whatever. The soundtrack is good I suppose, properly placed music does have the ability to greatly improve enjoyability of a series.

I liked OP, but that's mostly because of all the parody videos it spawned.

The characterization is terrible, first and foremost. Eren is completely obnoxious and I can't help but cringe sometimes when he's on screen.
He's a typical shounen protagonist, so edgy. Mikasa has no personality, just another Rei clone. Armin is the typical "useless friend" who gets thrown in there for nothing other than to make the viewer feel sorry for him. We have the comic relief idiot, potato girl.

Thing are going wrong and Eren somehow awakens with some super powers right as he's dying. Plot device at its finest. Pacing is not good at all, sometimes we have whole operations happening in an episode then it takes 3 episodes to move a rock.

Titans eating people is just simple shock factor to make the viewers gasp. It doesn't flesh out emotions well and people experiencing these tragic ends, or how it affects people around them.Another thing about the titans is that they're hard to take seriously. I can't help but laugh at the facial features and the way they run around most of the time.

I could go on but I'm getting tired of writing, as I've already written this stuff plenty of times to various people. All in all, let me say that SnK is receiving unfair criticism from some people and it's also receiving unfair praise by others. It is not a bad show, nor is it one of the best anime ever. It just simply "good." Depending on how it ends I will be rating it a 6/10 or 7/10. Although I suppose it's safe to say it'll get a season 2 anyway.

Yes, I recommend it. Also, I'm waiting for its sequel movie. It is slated to be released in Japan this September, which will feature a sequel story line after the end of the witches era.

Vampire Knight? ...Old? It's from 2008...

It's definitely not something I would recommend to anybody other than preteen girls who are Twilight fans.
