@Earnshaw

I don't know if you didn't see my post last page or just didn't respond but I'll say it again. You gotta watch the all other Macross series. They all have love triangles and great soundtracks.

Speaking of Macross, I was just at an anime convention this weekend and Haruhiko Mikimoto, which is the character designer for the show, was there. I got his autograph and shook his hand.

I foresee a certain Sheryl going onto your favorite characters list in the near future.

Oh ive seen u and revives little snk rants im always watching ...I expect it from revive I mean he hates everything popular but come on a 6? really?on another note mm! was my show after lotgh just what i needed at the time.

Well, I don't really see what's so great about it after the first episode. The same thing happened with SAO, except SAO was a little bit more gradual in it's depression of story quality. I suppose I can't honestly say SnK's story is terrible, but with the whole (spoilers) Eren titan (end) thing, the show is starting to have little more credibility than if Eren would've been magically reborn as a mahou shoujo. Yes, maybe they explain it in episodes to come later, but they're gonna have to give a damn good explanation and not just pull something outta their ass.

It's not even just the plot devices though, it's mostly the characters' faults. Eren is just your typical shounen hero: Cocky, has some dark background (which isn't saying much considering the other characters have the same thing) and thinks he's going to save everyone. Then the weak one (whatever his name is) who does absolutely nothing for the show except bring out the badass in everyone else. And finally Mikasa, the only one I don't hate... yet. Three characters and there's only one I like. I can name one terrible anime that had the same, but I won't.

Lastly on the characters, they have self-confidence equivalent to me in kindergarden half the time. Yes, yes, I never come face to face with a person 80 times my size, a million times strong, and, at one point, infinitely more kawaii than I am, but I'm certainly not going to stand around crying while their giant hand closes around me. Most likely, I will at least TRY to survive. The characters of this anime talk tough and then wait around to die.

In a nutshell, that's why I rate it so low. I apologize to anyone who was insulted by this, it's just my opinion.

Frontier was the first one I watched too and it doesn't really make a difference. If you watched the prequels first you'd just have a better idea of the setting and some of the references. Like if they mention a girl named Minmay (not sure if they do)? She's from the original Macross and becomes an important figure in the Macross universe. There's also the whole 'protoculture' or 'deculture' thing which you might be confused by if they ever mention it. Frontier is set far into the future, so there isn't any kind of continued story from the original to worry about.

But yes I was on the same boat. I thought Sheryl was gonna be an unlikeable stuck-up character for the first few episodes, so I was leaning toward Ranka. That changed fast though... Sheryl is now one of my favorite characters in anime.

For the Summer season it is mostly going to be continuation of series for me, as well as adaptations of games. If I hear good reviews for other series I may expand my watch list further but my initial list is:

Monogatari
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai
Dangan Ronpa
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (OVA)
Corpse Party (OVA)

If you do not know about Dangan Ronpa, it is about a group of students who get locked in a school and the only way out is to murder another student and not get exposed at the school trial. Corpse Party is also about a group of students who get transported to a school after performing a ritual and they must also find a way to escape before they are killed.

And @StrawhatLufi you are not the only one who noticed.
Rowena - waifu for laifu!

Isn't the entire point that all the characters talk trash to each other about how many titans they are going to kill and then get eaten in their first battle? None of them except Eren and Mikasa had even seen a titan before. These are recruits fresh out of boot camp who are suddenly thrust into a situation that, despite all the simulation training, was impossible to prepare for. Hitting an immobile wooden prop shaped like a titan is nothing like the real thing. Even the smallest class of titans is "only" 10 ft tall, and that is still bigger than the world's tallest man. The battle wasn't even on the hunan's terms so there wasn't much time to get psyched up.

When it comes down to it, nobody knows how they will react in a life or death situation. It's easy to think you'd go Rambo on everyone, but I'm sure there are plently of tales of Vietnam where soldiers hit the deck and stay down for their first firefight because they're too scared to move. I'm pretty sure Armin was in shock seeing as his entire squad was wiped out in a matter of seconds and Eren, who he'd pinned his hopes on, was lying unconscious and missing his leg below the knee. I didn't think him freezing up was particularly unrealistic. What would have been cheesy is Eren & Co. slaughtering gigantic monsters they'd never before encountered.

The way I see it, the characters are just senseless. They here about all those numbers and still think they're going to kick ass? Pfft, there's not a drop of sense in that if you ask me. Also, there is a human instinct we all have, believe it or not, to survive . Also, these guys went to a training camp, right? What the hell did they do there during the, what, year or two they spent there? Play cards? Drink beer? Grow a garden of heavenly scented marigolds and daffodils? Well, they might as well have, because in the boot camps my friend tells me about they actually prepare you for situations. These guys are way too quick to curl up in a ball and suck on their thumbs in the face of danger to be called "trained soldiers".

I think you'll recall I already went over the "I've never been in the same situation" thing before, but I'll clarify on why that doesn't matter. I said I think I'd at least try to survive; don't you think most people would? The only one I think wouldn't are those who have nothing left to live for and would've killed themselves the next day even if they survived. I realize that may sound a bit harsh, but there's no other way to say it. And honestly, these soldiers give up before it's even certain they have no reason to live.

(Again, these are my opinions, I apologize in advance to those who take offense to them. Don't try to change them because I rarely do.)
