It's simple really. When I had first started watching it (and I'm sure many of the long-time veterans of this thread remember) I thought it was the the greatest thing ever. However, looking back on it after watching anime that weren't Naruto and Bleach, I saw just how bad I would think of them now, resulting in the low scoring but high episode count.

^ Death Note is just the tip of the iceberg, my friend.
Though here's one tip: Avoid Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and Fairy Tail like the plague.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow so true... Death Note was my first anime I watched and I loved it! After that I tried looking for others to watch and I tried One Piece, Fairy Tail, and a little bit of Bleach and I couldnt stand it... I quit after a few episodes... It was just so annoying, and childish.
Another thing I hate in anime is when every episode is like a mini adventure when the main character sees a new enemy and faces adversity and then finally beats the bad guy which probably had some sort of super power, and in the end, everything is okay...And the next episode its the SAME thing all over again.
I HATE this... Like what do you expect, the main character to NOT overcome the bad guy and die? I feel though anyone can just keep making up crappy episodes over and over like this...
Death note was completely the opposite. It wasnt like Light fought some guy every episode lol. There was a bigger storyline, (which was badass) and each episode contributed. Filled with suspense and build-up. Atm Im watching Code Geass, loved the first season, but not sure how I feel about 2nd season with introducing more and more "villains" and "powers" which attributes to previously mentioned anime mood killer for me.
Anyways, any suggestions on some anime for me? I mean, I'll look into anything as long as it's not some brainless episode-after-episode of same old plot...

^Yeah, that was one of the things that I wasn't too keen on in the second season, but in the end the new enemies and powers don't take away too much.
As for recommendations, seeing as you like action a lot, you might like Baccano! which is a short 13 episode anime that's one of my favs. I'd recommend you more, but with what you've posted so far I can't confidently recommend any more than that at this point. You might like Guilty Crown, as it's pretty much a rip off of Code Geass except the story is much worse and it's shorter. Still, give it a try, you might find it more enjoyable than I did.

Full Metal Panic? It's the first anime I watched and it's still my favourite after watching about 700 episodes of different animes.
Also, even tho I'm not sure if you'd enjoy them watch an episode or 2 of Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima. The first and second season of Shakugan no Shana were great, at least to me and Zero no Tsukaima's pretty good, even if it's a bit odd at the start (but which anime isn't?)

Guilty Crown was a train wreck honestly. The only reason I gave it a 7/10 was because it was fun to discuss how bad the weekly episode was. It's one of those cases in which it's so bad it's good. I really wouldn't recommend watching it. Even though Guilty Crown does share some similarities with Code Geass, comparing the two would be an insult to the latter.
