If he likes sad, dark endings then Master of Martial Hearts would be a good anime to watch. It's only 5 episodes though i believe.

It really depends on the show. I just feel that in Clannad it was all for naught. They just used the supernatural aspect as a scapegoat to end it happily. I still loved it regardless but ehh... I think it could have gone either way. Most people prefer happy endings.

You really need to finish Ryvius man... That's gotta be my 3rd favorite anime of all time.
Just looked up that Master of Martial Hearts. Only a 5.38 rating on MAL... ouch... Got some pretty bad reviews too.
But yes, sad endings are my favorite if they are called for.

Scanning through some of the reviews... they just say it's generic ecchi then with a really bad end. So yeah, nothing that I'm really interested in. Most of the time anything with below a 7.0 mean score isn't going to be too good.
And I'm serious. Go make a MAL. Goooooooo
