That said though, there's 'some' and then there's 'to much'. While personal tolerances can vary alot, ive found that there really is a certain art to being able to use fanservice effectively, and that a lot of directors/studio's haven't mastered that art yet.
Some shows use it really well, sparingly and welltimed. When it can be justified by the narrative like that, a little fanservice can go a long way to improving the show. Then, of course, you've got the shows were they just bludgeon the viewer upside the head with it constantly, trying to sell the story with **** in the absence of any actual quality of product.
I don't really have any particular comment on HOTD though. While I certainly wouldn't miss the fanservice since it really didn't add anything notably valuable to the show, it wasn't really excessive enough to be intrusive either. The one exception to that rule is the stupid nurse who exists to ramp up the ****age levels and that's about it,.
