It depends on whos doing the dub/sub places like Funimation have a reputation to for ruining shows with censor ship and terrible translations, where as other places don't even touch the video and do the dub the same as subs would be as long as they can get the lines to match up to there mouths.
Funimation is evil, having them licence an anime a fan subbing group is doing makes them drop it almost instantly because of there bombardment of legal claims they start making. Even when they have the same anime streaming for free on there website...

Most companies that dub nowadays are pure garbage.
They're all aiming for SUPAH KAWAII GIRLY AKTORS ^____^ and SUPER ULTRA SUGOI DAN GREEN *3x
Anime has declined in dubbing after things like Yu Yu Hakusho were released. Olders shows like that actually had decent voice actors that didn't try too hard to be hip and cool or cute and girly.

That's why I just like subs, they do it right.

I've just discovered the masterpiece of a show, Fullmetal Alchemist, and I have to say, this is that first time an animated show has ever made me cry.
Hopefully I'll be able to finish the series and possibly move on to watch the movie and discover other interesting Anime shows much like Fullmetal Alchemist.

Subs don't really have much room to go wrong so by just having them you could say its done right you'd think.
Also think that "SUPAH KAWAII GIRLY" thing refers to the stereotypical Anime teenage girl not just how the dubs do it but as compared to an English speaking teenager they need someone that's going to talk and act like that so they can capture what the characters meant to be like.

Vand if you just watched the original FMA series you need to watch the movie for sure. ;)
Then after you've done that how about watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, its a remake of the series that follows the original story line of the manga more closely and after about a dozen episodes it has a completely different story. Brotherhoods also just finished recently so if you start you can see it all now and then there planning on making a new movie soon.

Thanks, B Boy Rock ^_^ .
I'll be looking forward to indulging in FMA.
Do you have any other recommendations that give the same effect that Fullmetal Alchemist does?

There is nothing that's exactly like FMA and I even remember having troubles looking for something that was right to watch after it and never found something the same. Although for me shows Fairy Tail and Bleach come close to the standards of FMA and they're both great but still not the same. Could be worth a try watching an ep or 2?
Other shows that aren't the same for sure that I've liked also are.
Hellsing
Wolf's Rain
Claymore
Black lagoon
FLCL
Neon Genesis Evangelion
D.N.Angel
Clannad
Death Note
Those are just a few of the series I've really enjoyed and if anyone's looking for something to watch and hasn't see any of those I'd recommend giving any a go.

Lol, I have seen 3 of the animes mentioned in the above post. :P
DN Angel - Wiz and Lop Eared Rabbit ftw!
Death Note - Pretty Good, however, kinda predictable IMO.
Fullmetal Alchemist - Good considering it involved science, albeit a fictional science, but, it did mention some actual and practical sciences, also, great comedy.
Do not get confused the alchemy used with magic, it is not apparently.
Spoilers!
I HATE WRATH, he killed Lust! She was DA BEST female character next to the woman/snake chimera!
EDIT:
Armstrong's sparkly pink stars ftw!
EDIT2:
I want YouTube to put the ENTIRE FMA brotherhood series on, I will not watch an anime half way through! :@

You can look for FMAB episodes on Madman's site, in the screening room. I think they're taking the series down soon though but they should have the whole series.
Just in case you don't know Madman are an Australian Anime licenser and distributor.

Death Note wasn't really one of my favourites either but its a shows worth watching that's made it pretty mainstream too being on of the few animes we get on TV here in Australia.
