^You'll probably need it eventually. Formats like .mkv wont run without some form of codec or another. There are alternatives to CCCP like the K-lite codec pack.

Oh you poor creature... while its true that the the Crunchy Roll subrip groups (Horriblesubs, Crunchysubs, commie and underwater) are a safe fallback when you know that a show is only being subbed by small independent groups without a reputation or by groups that you know are terrible (like Hadena, oh my god they are horrible), there is usually always a better group available since CR tends to take liberties with its translations.
GG (when they aren't trolling) , Mazui, SS, Zenyaku, UTW and a few others who's name I cant remember off the top of my head usually do a much better job than the CR subrippers.

If you disliked episode 24 then I expect you wont be a big fan of the second season since its basically 24 episodes of that, drama, drear and not much else. As I Revive mentioned, they is another 'IF route' episode in the second season for Kyou, haven't seen that one myself but just giving you a heads up.
But if you liked Clannad might be worth doing the rest of the Key show's as well. They are all somewhat similar in tone, yet also a little bit different.

Opportunity for drama and character building. I think this was sourced from some Japanese superstition that I cant seem to find any info on now, but the reason they get so sick is, of course, because then they can usually have some other character take care of them. And since it seems the majority of anime characters don't have parents or their parents are on a 'business trip' all the time, that usually ends up being the love interest.
That, and its also a cheap way to buy drama in a conflict situation. Anything that makes it hard for the character to fight works, but sickness is usually the easiest to explain and demonstrate.
