@ Yoshii
Yeah, I also remember renting those Sailor Moon movies.
My cousin still has a couple of them, which she recorded it on VCR. I only remember parts of the movie, but they were pretty epic.
@ DefShieldDwn
I agree with you that Cartoon Network is not the same anymore.
When I was a kid, I only got to see cable television at my aunt's house and the cartoon shows were entirely a lot better than the current shows. I missed the good ol' times.
THe first anime I watched was...I cannot remember.
It is either Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, or Pokémon.

I really want there to be a 3rd gig to the Ghost in the Shell series. Hopefully it will happen.

I haven't read all of this thread, but I'll say this...
I don't know if I would reccomend watching Naruto, it has been having a lot filler episodes. Although Naruto shippuden, that's a different story, almost no fillers, better storylines, and overall, is better than Naruto.
...Okay, enough about Naruto, another show I would reccomend, is Dradonball Z, one of the best classics you'll find, it barely ever plays on tv anymore, but I think some websites that are still up have them.
And, for people who are about drama, I would reccomend Death note, if you end up watching it, you'll find out what the drama is about...
(ps. I've also tried drawing anime, my brothers really good at it, so he showed me how, try learning from someone who does know, if you don't)
Edit: I forgot to mention, Pokemon, it was good for an anime, until america got the license, now, it doesn't even feel like anime anymore, it feels like some cartoon.
(btw, something I still can't believe, they're now using markers for anime, markers! What has the world come to? lol, this getting long now, so I'll stop typing...

Naruto Shippuden fails. Too much talking.
Dragon Ball Z is my most favorite anime of all time. Watched it as a kid, watching it today. Actually, it still comes on at Nicktoons. Problem is, it is Dragon Ball Z Kai. Most of the scenes are cut out. It is half as long. Been up for 3 months and they are already at the Freiza saga.
Bleach is also a awesome anime. It comes on at AdultSwim every Sunday morning, or as I would unlogicaly say, Saturday Night.
Kekaishi is a new anime coming on at AdultSwim. It is a interesting show and is only in at about 20 episodes. Let me just say, a lot of explosions.
@ Sam Parki
Hmmm....anime originates from Japan and not China, which is where most anime comes from. Anime is fundamentally an animated show or film. The difference between a cartoon and an anime is a cartoon is simply to entertain and lacks a story, while an anime is as well for entertainment, but has its own story with developing characters, many (not all) are highly detailed, and actually have an ending. For instance, the Simpsons does not actually have a direct story line and the episodes are random and never end.
In a sense, anime is similar to cartoon, since all of the anime shows (I believe) are all derived from magna or Japanese comic books per se.
Here is the dictionary definition for anime: a Japanese style of motion-picture animation, characterized by highly stylized, colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and love (had to use a synonym
).
Correct me if I am wrong. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Just out of curiosity:
Sub or Dub?
Also, why?
The reason I prefer anime over cartoon is because it has a PLOT and is not entirely random. Also, anime is somewhat mature making it better to watch when you are about the age of 9 and therefore is better than cartoon because anime is not touchy feely about whether or not it is suitable for young children.
