@urb4dbro
Redline was an awesome movie. I guess the ending was a bit cliche but that's the way I would have wanted it to end!
@Majikoi
Well I don't read visual novels but...
Favorite 3 (no order):
Ano Natsu de Matteru
Another
Guilty Crown

Yeah, it's really good. Has a really creepy and eerie feel to it. Stuff goes down in the 3rd episode, its like Madoka all over again.
You should really keep watching Ano Natsu, even though it's pretty generic, it just has a different kind of a feel to it. Can't quite explain it but I'm just really drawn to it.

So, I'm doing my regular reading of a manga after finishing a couple anime and I stumble upon a new one, Hidan no Aria AA. As a fan of the original light novels, manga, and anime I'm thinking, "Hey, this should be interesting." Right I was, it was interesting... but not in a good way.
This is the summary: "A young girl, Mamiya Akari, idolizes the world-renowned S-ranked butei Kanzaki H. Aria and plans to follow in her footsteps. However, her test grades her out as only an E-rank! All is not lost, however, as Aria agrees to give her some pointers. Can Aria help this newcomer become a first-rate butei?"
First thing I notice is the artwork. Compared to the original it's severely lacking in many points (not saying I'm the best drawer in the world, but still even to me it was disappointing).
And then there were mis-categorizations of genre. This manga claimed to have the same genres as the original, however that proved false for Harem and Romance because of the lack of a MALE character (I know what you're thinking and no, yuri is not one of the genres...). Edit: Nvm, harem isn't one of the genres, but Shoujo Ai is, so that justifies the romance genre... Never really thought Aria to be one to get into a girl-girl relationship...
Also, they fail to capture the personality of Aria from the original Hidan no Aria. At this point, this means there isn't any truly "sassy" character (sure there's the ***** character as well as the annoying character).
And finally there's the plot. Four chapters in, the general plot is introduced. It's basically the same as the original, but much less believable. Akira, much like Kinji from the original, meets Aria. From there, Aria allows Akira to try and prove that she's good enough to pair up with her. However, unlike Kinji, Akira has an unbelievable stroke of luck and completes the challenge Aria tests her with.
So yeah, this manga is pretty much a 'Wtf' spin-off of the original work... -_-

I'll get Another off nyaa later, same with the rest of Ano Natsu. Watching it feels a bit generic, but I got the same warm feeling I got when watching AnoHana.
(But I still have to pile through the rest of Moretsu Pirates & finish watching Raildex)

It´s hard to decide what genre is my favorite, I like these best:
- (Well done) shounen. Examples: One Piece, Reborn, "Something" "something" Hakusho.
- Action/Thriller. Examples: Death Note, Baccano!, FMA Brotherhood.
- Atmospheric (hard to name this genre). Examples: Mushishi, Natsume Yuujinchou, Aria the Animation, Kino no Tabi.
* I also have something with "cool" urban Japan. I don't know if any of you played The World Ends With You.
Least favorite:
Ecchi.
Ps, Jagex stop censoring things that don't make sense.

@Majikoi S: Although the title says 'anime discussion', ive always said that the title should have been the 'anime, manga and other related media discussion thread', so visual novel discussion is perfectly acceptable.
I also read them, love the things. Just wish that more of them were available in English...

Annnnnnnyway, favorite and least favorite genre eh?
Kinda tough to pick a favorite genre since ive seen so many good and bad performances from each, but I suppose I would have to go with psychological as my main genre (sub genre really) of choice, purely becasue it has the best success:failure ratio.
Least favorite is alot easier, BL/ Yaoi. Half because of the fact that im a guy and so dont want to see that, half becasue of the overzelous fujoshi fanfic writers it breeds. Second contender for least favorite genre would be ecchi, not becasue I don't exactly like it (skillful deployment of fanservice can improve a show quite a bit) its just that there's been so many terrible ecchi series that have left me turned off as opposed to turned on that the good ones are kind of overshadowed.

My favorite genre, huh? Hmmm, I'd say romance or action just because I've always thought of myself to be a romanticist but also a hardcore fighter.
Least favorite would definitely be Yaoi (for the same reasons as Jess really). I can't say I hate ecchi like so many others before have said, but I do agree that the overly ecchi series are ones that I generally cannot stand (Freezing aside since the plot was interesting to me).
@Ouji I just finished playing through The World Ends With You, excellent game for sure.
