Ya'know, I often hear people talking about these hardcore weaboo's, but of all the anime conventions that ive ever been to (8 in total, spanning a total of 12 days) im still yet to meet one. Maybe im just naturally good at avoiding them since I mostly stick to panels and the vendors area's rather than milling around in the open spaces...
Gotta agree with that thing about 'land whales' though, there are some people who just should not cosplay certain characters (or just shouldn't be cosplaying period). I recall the first time I went to an anime convention, there was a guy who was really, really fat cosplaying as sailor moon. Crossplay issues aside, he had fat rolls hanging out of his costume and smelled horrible, and I was stuck behind him in the crowd (Saturday crowd at Supanova is horrible, so glad they are moving to a new venue this year).
Nothing wrong with cosplay in general though. At the cons I go to every third person is typically in some sort of costume and the cosplay events are usually a main sttraction, its only if you start cosplaying when your not at a con or dedicated cosplay event that there's something wrong (looking at you, people who walk around in public wearing Naruto headbands).
