Indeed western society seems to confuse a talented artist with a good singing voice, and all those pointless talent shows on television are great examples for it.
I generally like Jrock and Jpop, though I dislike it when the pace (usually synthesized) is very high while a female singer sings like a child.
Should be noted that I get my Japanese music from anime openings and endings only. It's not that when I want new music, I search for Japanese music.
To stay on topic these are my 10 favorite anime openings: of course mostly because I like the music, but how well they suit the animation and series is also included:

Speaking of Fairy Tail, I am just now starting the series but debating if I want to drop it or not..
Is anyone watching it? Does it get any.. Better? As of now it's kind of just all ******** around and such. Also, by better.. Like.. More serious? I get that it's comedy/parody.. But still...

Well not really no. Actually it gets worse, and worse, and then worse. It does not get more serious, and I dropped it after they did a "seven year timeskip", but none of the main cast aged at all, because of some ******** fairy magic thing l0l it's a joke for real dude.
