True. I tend to like alot of the music that i hear from the 80's and early 90's, its just that the majority of my musical consumption that dosent come from Japanese media comes from the radio at work, and im not the one choosing the station, so all I get is recent stuff.
When it comes to the words, while a message or story contained within the song is nice, and is a consideration when it comes to English music, when it comes to Japanese song I'm more interested with how the lyrics go together with the other elements of the song, more like the lead instrument as opposed to the centrepeice of the song.
Yes, the mainstay of anime music has that generic structure, but what stands out to me as setting it apart from English music is a difference in instrumental priority VS singer priority, and instrument count. Ive found that the instrumental aspects of the song play a larger role in the music that in the west, were its either dulled for the singer to take priority, or just dosent exist. I have no issue with synth , but just ONE is not acceptable.
If your gonna do that you need at least 3 different beats to make decent music.
