@Jesse: If you stopped at episode 17 I can see why Tomoya (I'm guessing that's who you meant) is on your 'characters you wish to punch' list. But trust me, watch the last five episodes and your view of him will change completely. I don't know if you've read the summaries for the episodes you haven't seen, but what you haven't seen is a must watch. The last few episodes are just so amazing. I'm sure you won't regret watching them. :)

@Zuriel:
Your guess is correct. I got really frustrated at his 'woe is me, my life is so tragic' attitude and the way he just palmed responsibility of onto other people so that he could wallow in self-pity, resulting in the first time ive ever actually ragequit a series because the actions of a character made me sick.
He'd better redeem himself in these last couple of episodes...

Ive learned never to expect complete and total sense from Key anyways, which I assume is why I generally like their stories. Seems that most of the people who dont's main complaint is that they didn't get everything explained, not realizing that was never the point to begin with.
Clever withholding of information or shoddy directing, your call.

Personally, I'd say that Key cleverly withholds information. If everything was explained as it happened, it'd be a pretty simple plot-line. Angel Beats was a great example of how they set up a great storyline and then explain everything in the last couple of episodes. Key is just amazing at what they do. ^_^

Of course, even Angel Beats is never wholly explained. What you often find with Key's signature writing style is that while aspects which relate to the characters are explained, the mechanisms by which they occurred are generally not.
For example, although we know something of the capabilities of Angel Player, we know nothing of its origins or exactly how it works, we just know that it does. And in Kanon, were never really told with much clarity how Makoto managed to become a human, we just know that she did and why she did it.
In short, its safe to say that Key arent interested in explaining how the world works, they are only interested in showing that it does and how that has an effect on the characters, because that's what matters, and it makes for a much more contained and personal story. Which is, of course, what your shooting for when your trying to pull tears from the audience.
Very effective writing.

Top 5 Anime Songs?
Mine:
1. Angel Beats - My Most Precious Treasure
2. Higurashi Opening 2
3. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Rain
4. When Seagulls Cry - Opening
5. Gravitation - The Rage Beat
The titles to the songs escape me. :@
EDIT:
Don't suppose anyone knows if anyone has the rights to When Seagulls Cry for release in the UK, America or Australia maybe? :|

@KaotikMemory
Watch Phantom: Requiem for the phantom. The main character is BA a long with pretty much every other character. The story is pretty amazing too, it was intense...my eyes were glued to the screen from start to finish.

@Dynamic:
At the moment nobody has licensed Umineko for US/UK/AU distribution. I don't imagine it terribly likely that they will be interested in them given how much time has passed since its release, how poorly it did in Japan and how Funi treated its Higurashi license.
