It's a little bit too early to say for me, since this season is just beginning and I haven't seen everything of this year yet, that I wanted to see.

this years filled with good anime my top 5 list, w/o counting the currently airing ones, would be:

5.(started watching it not far yet.in chapter 5 atm) Nichijou

Nobody has the licensing rights to Higurashi in the UK, and I imagine your going to have a hard time getting a US release for cheap since theres not many around now that Funimation has decided not to renew its Higurashi license. Rightstuf has no more stock of the anime.
You've also got the option to buy from Australian licensor Siren Visual. Sure its not the cheap $30 US box sets (2 sets of 13 epsiodes, $49.95 AUD each), but it might be better than paying the $180 USD they are asking on amazon.
No word on whether they are going to do Kai/Rei/Kira, I asked them about it at Supanova and they said they would like to, but its iffy since no dubbed version would be available.
Current top 5 for the year, leaving out this current season for obvious reasons:

#4: Anohana
#5: Gosick
Honorable mention to Hidan no Aria and Mawaru Penguindrum, for being so utterly weird at times and yet still being incredibly entertaining.

Just watched episode 22 of Shakugan no Shana season 2. After watching this I was like WTF! Two things that were messed up with it follows:
Spoilers below!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Ike decides to finally confess to Yoshida. However, she turns him down and decides to still pursue Yuji, who hasn't shown any interest in going out with her.
2. Just when you are about to find out who Yuji picks, a battle just has to interrupt it. :l
P.S. NO one is to give me spoilers on who he chooses. I'm hoping It's Shana. I'm gonna murder my computer if its Yoshida. O_o

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!! I have finished season 2 and started the final season of Shakugan no Shana. I'm outraged at how the story has completely changed. Why the hell is Yuji on the dark side now? They didn't really tell us why he all of a sudden changed sides. What i was expecting from the end of episode 24 of season 2 was that Yuji would pick Shana. Now the guy that has said multiple times throughout season 2 that he wants to protect the city and everyone in it, is no longer on their side?!?!?!?!?
