@B Boy Rock: Well, Angel Beats is the 4th anime addaptation by KEY, so that should pretty much summarize the majority of the story for you (The S in this case would be "spirit wolrd". Every KEY show is always summarised as "sad girls in something with S"

Its quite a departure for KEY though because there are three major differences from their former works.
First of all, its not an addaptation of a H-game like the usual KEY addaptations are, but instead its an original work.
Second, there are more men in it than the usual "male lead and friend" duo. This one isnt a harem setting like it usually is.
Third difference, Genre. This ones more about the action and the comedy with drama and romance interjected than the usual romace/drama with sporadic comedy. There are a lot more guns in this one.
SO basically its the story of a guy who wakes up in an unknown school with no memory, next to a girl packing a sniper rifle, who promptly informs him that he's dead and in the afterlife.
This girl is the leader of an army of sorts who wage war against "Angel/Tenshi"(i prefer it in its literal form, sicne its a title and not a name), student council president, representative of god and possessor of lethal supernatural powers. If you dont , you'll disappear and get reincarnated as (according to them) a barnacle.
So he joins this army and kills time till his memory comes back, stuff happens, things explode, alot of (really good, i have the OST's) music plays and people die alot. Really epic anime and i totally reccomend it. The unaired 14th episode is released on the 22nd december.
Sometimes it wont make sense since it was designed to cover 35 eps rather than 13, but its one of the most awesome anime in recent years.
Shiki: Vampires for the first 10 episodes or so at anyrate, not much of a mystery sicne pretty much anyone who's seen anything concerning vampires (twiligh aside) can tell that,. After that, i dunno for reasons described above.

Thanks for the explanation Jesse, it looks like I'm going to have to watch Angel Beats too now. It looks to me like it'll be a good contrast to the other ones if it's not so harem and has a bit of comedy in it.
Will be good that I'm not stuck waiting for this final episode too.
As for Shiki I don't think I need another Vampire anime any time soon. Theres just to many of them.

To me Angel Beats is the best anime of this year. It's full of action, comedy and fantasy and the ending was really unexpected and emotional, I loved it! Also, the music is really nice, I have the OST as well.
Currently reading the manga version, "Heaven's Door". It's a pity new chapters only come out once a month.
Here are the anime I'm currently watching, I'll try to give a short description:
-Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge: Comedy about a man who lives under a bridge with a bunch of - well - 'weird' people.
-Bakuman: Nice slice-of life about two guys wanting to fulfill their dream of becoming manga artists.
-Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku: I don't know why I'm watching this, the first few episodes were really boring. But the ending of ep 7 suggests there might be a plot coming.
-Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Okay, this story is so weird I can't explain it in a few words.
Fantasy/comedy about a guy who is the best in dating sim games and without knowing makes a contract with a - cute - demon.
-Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai: An anime about anime? Oh well, it worked before with Genshiken. Comedy, guy finds out that his sister is really addicted to cute anime and games.
-Otome Youkai Zakuro: A few military guys are assigned to a new department "Spirit affairs" and need to work together with female half-spirits with fox ears. Only the main character has a problem: he's afraid of spirits.
-Shin*yaku! Ika Musume: Comedy about a cute "squid-girl" who wants to conquer humanity but ends up working in a beach restaurant.

Angel Beats has now over taken Air in the list of things I'm watching next. I do love it when a series has a good soundtrack too.
