~Summer Wars Movie Review~

Wow, what a great movie. This was one of the best anime movie I've seen. I really liked the tech theme of the story. The movie was kinda silly, but it was very entertaining. Other than the silliness, there really isn't anything else wrong with it. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone, especially those who like sci-fi anime.

Overall Rating: 9.5/10

Edit: In future reviews, I'll be adding Spoilers to make my reviews a little more detailed. Anything I say in Orange will be spoilers. I'll still warn people who don't know about the new color spoiler system by saying WARNING, SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!. I'll try to be more detailed with non spoilers as well.

Also, starting with the above review, I'll put the next anime/movie I'll be watching and reviewing next.

Yeah, Summer Wars is a great movie. For that matter, pretty much everything directed by Mamoru Hosoda is really good.


Anyways, I just finished up with Nichijou, which I've been watching progressively over the last few months. I enjoyed it greatly, and so give it an 8/10. The humor varies in degrees of funny, and some of the gags are far to drawn out in their set-up for the pay-out they get, but overall it was fun and reasonable funny.

What really impressed me about the series was the quality of the animation. Normally for this sort of content and this art style you would have a lot of still shots, a lot of drawn out scenes and a minimum of detail, but in this case pretty much everything is animated and there is a lot of motion and additional details that you normally not see. I was surprised to learn that this was a KyoAni show since gag comedy isn't their normal fare but it was reflected heavily in the animation and I think that was well served by the simplistic, squarish artstyle used.

Nichijou... The only reason I finished that was because I was at my grandparents house with nothing to do and it was the only anime I'd transferred over to my laptop. I guess I'm in the minority here because I didn't think it was funny at all, minus maybe a handful of scenes. It was pretty funny in that one scene where the principal fights the deer. But comedy is purely subjective, so I don't want to discourage people from watching it.

Mamoru Hosoda does direct some pretty solid films.

Hideaki Anno is my god.
