In other news, my recent experiences with a Touhou game has led me to believe that Japanese gamers are either all masochists, or secretly have an additional arm and set of eyes that they keep hidden from the rest of the world. EASY DIFFICULTY MY ASS!

I have 1CCed all Windows danmaku Touhou games on Lunatic. Does this make me Japanese?

No, just makes you a masochist lol. Not familiar with the acronym, but I'm gonna assume it's some manner of impressive feat of completion involving limited continues. I could probably do better of the game would let me change the button config and I had a decent keyboard (my laptops up and down are only half-size, not great for games) but still, nuts to playing on lunatic.

@Runman:

Serious bro? Sure, sudden long flashbacks and crowification and the like make Air a little bit on the weird side and it certainly threw me the first time as well, but I think only 30% is low-bowling it a little, even with the confusion I cant understand how you could hate it THAT much. It's worth finishing, the emotional pay-off is worth the occasional glitch in the narrative.

Alternatively, try the movie. I like the movie better than the TV series anyway, because the narrative is more solid and makes a bit more sense since the movie only covers the Misuzu and Summer arcs, and goes into heavier detail with both. It's not a KyoAni production (It's Toei if I remember correctly) but It's still really good.

Ah, Touhou, some of the only games to ever give me a real challenge. I still want to go back to those just to see if can get any better.

I didn't much care for Air either, but not so much as to give it a 3/10. Still, the tv show was a lot weirder than it should've been, in my opinion. I remember Clannad After Story having that one weird supernatural turn at the end (that really just came out of no where), but on whole the series stayed normal. Air was just... yeah.

It's interesting, in every anime based off a Key VN, there's always a supernatural aspect in some way, shape, or form. However, out of all of those anime, I think Kanon does the best in terms of incorporation of a supernatural aspect. Angel Beats! does really well here too, but the aspect in AB!, for lack of a better phrase, doesn't seem as supernatural when put into context with the story. As for LB!'s anime adaptation, the supernatural aspect came up randomly as with Clannad AS and Air where it wasn't really there in the beginning (aside from 1 or 2 points) and then they abruptly spring it on you (imo). With Kanon, the supernatural aspect wasn't constantly there, but it was introduced rather well later within the first arc and was used as a predominant plot device throughout the series. This is why I tend to say Kanon was the best adaptation of a Key VN, the story just fit together so well (plus "Uguu~!" of course).

Feel free to correct me on any of that, it's been a while since I've rewatched Clannad, Air, and AB!.

Are you basing that opinion on Little Busters on the anime or the VN? I could see that being true for the anime to some extent, but i thought it was foreshadowed excellently, albeit subtly, throughout the story of the VN. Although it's true that the bulk of the supernatural stuff (leaving aside the vague supernatural that permeates all of the routes save Haruka's) is only really heavily foreshadowed towards the end of Rin2, it's actually going on throughout the whole game right from the point at which you start again post-Rin1 with the improvements in base stats. I love that, becasue your left to naturally assume it's just part of progression, but in actuality it's a story element in and of itself.

And with AB! I imagine that is mostly becasue unlike the rest of Key's works, the supernatural aspect doesnt creep up and come into play as the story progresses, it's an outright fact of the setting right from the get-go. That's pretty much the whole point of that opening scene.

we were talking about a rewatch of a/s a few days ago group rewatch everyone!!!

in agreement with raiken with regards to kanon 06 being the best of the key adaptations have to say the one thing I really enjoyed in kanon was the character cast I always thought the characters in clannad were rather boring especially nagisa whereas in kanon I liked probably (opens mal checks character cast) 4/5 of the girls. Something I do love about key shows though is the soundtracks cant say much about air but kanon clannad ab and Lb I absolutely loved the soundtracks.

edit:What did you think of refrain jesse(assuming you have seen it) as someone who has played the vn?

Yes, Jesse, that opinion was based on the anime adaptation.

Air had a good OP song, but that's about it. I do agree that Kanon, Clannad, and LB had gorgeous OSTs in their adaptations, although I prefer some of what I've heard in LB's VN to the adaptation's. Hell, I have some of them on my iPod.

Man, if I ever get more free time, I gotta play some of these VNs.

Yeah, I've heard that. I was talking more along the lines of Little Busters, and I really want to play Refrain. I saw a physical copy of the game at a convention, and I almost bought it, but it was for PC only and didn't, well, still don't know how to get a virtual operating system on my Mac.
