Ive never watched anime, but it looks like somethign id be intersted in. Could someone enlighten me on this lol, im rusty from the constant rs and lack of tv

Anime is a Japanese cartoon, this usually shows things that would be somewhat mature maintain a large degree of humour. I would suggest watching the 2 anime below to get a good feel of what anime is;
Death Note - An anime where a highschool student finds a dairy in which he can write down a person's name and they die within 40 seconds. He will then usually do this to criminals though, trying to make the world a better place to live in. In the second episode you find a detective known as L, the race is then on to see who catches who first.
In brief that is.
This has a lot of death in it just to let you know.
Fullmetal Alchemist - I can't write much more because I have to get ready, just look for the plot. This is a pretty good anime.

Anime doesn't always have to be just mature shows that contain humour though. With anime there are so many different genres covered, though its all animated the same and origination from Japan. You can have anything from very serious shows to mindless kids shows or 'Slice of life' shows with normal people in believable situations to shows about people with superpowers from another plant.

Edit: and continuing onto what Dynamic Hawk wrote about fma; Complicated plot, explosions, no magic (alchemy is like magic though), and spectacular planning. :D

FMA is a classic, you don't need to have even heard of what anime is to be able to watch it and love it.
In fact I was obsessed with the show before I really even knew it was anime when it first came out on adult swim several years back.
