All of this assumes gen 7, ofc.
Gen 3; specifically, Emerald Version.

Still Shiftry then. If Cacturne got Sucker Punch, I would say Cacturne, but Shiftry still edges it out simply due to its speed tier (80 was actually good during that time).
Shiftry is also a better tank. They both have 60 Defence and Sp.Def but Shiftry tips in at 90 HP while Cacturne has 70, and Shiftry has access to Amnesia. Cacturne can potentially heal more due to Ingrain on top of Leech Seed and Leftovers if you want, but Shiftry has potential to take more punishment.

Though 90/60/60 and 70/60/60 are completely relative when this is a thing:

252 Atk Beedrill Twineedle (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Shiftry: 244-288 (63.5 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And this is from a mon with base 80 (in gen 3) Attack with a total base 50 power move.

Yeah, Bug types will always destroy Shiftry or Cacturne. The funny thing is, Extrasensory and Aerial Ace give Shiftry somewhat of a chance against Fighting types, and Aerial Ace can take on bugs.

Here's something interesting I found. A move tutor in Emerald can teach Cacturne Thunderpunch.

Hah, just realized that my copy of Emerald is a bootleg. I had no idea that the "The game can be played" message had any significance, happened to google it out of idle curiosity and after a few minutes it became apparent that this cartridge is fake news. Very good likeness, though; only giveaways on the cartridge itself are an off-centered Nintendo logo and Nintendo seal, and the "con tent" on misspelling on the ESRB rating (in microscopic print, of course). Never would've given it a second glance.

Tried looking up whether these fakes are playable and apparently they have a habit of erasing game data after ~50 hours or so. Unfortunate. Maybe I'll find an emulator or something instead.
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.

That feel when you splash 70k on Iron Tail, only to learn later that the Celadon Mart sells Brick Break for 3k. Both types give Pikachu some coverage against the Rock types I will face, but Brick Break, which covers more types and is way more accurate, is over 20 times cheaper. Finances fucked unnecessarily.

EDIT: Ah well, it's only 3k. I can make that easy, and Pikachu needs a few levels anyway. It's level 43 at the moment and I'm about to take on Koga.

Ehh...for Mild I'd go for HJK over Focus Miss, and if you're running Blizzard, Icium Z is p much a mandate. "Revenge...is like a rolling stone, which, when a man hath forced up a hill, will return upon him with a greater violence, and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion."- Jeremy Taylor

I was thinking of the Wide Lens really, but looking back on it, it makes Focus Blast and Blizzard both 77% accuracy, which even then is pretty poor. I could always put a Me First in there somewhere, and I'll change to Ice Beam. Wise Glasses or Life Orb as well. Prepare for hell on RuneScape in Naval Cataclysm!

Ehh...

Could do QD (on Mild), or U-Turn (on both sets).

But yoooooo, you need to battle me sometime. I just need to finish training my Fuckle with Shuckle and Re-EV my Bulu.

Thanks, I'll get cracking with my Fairy team as well, and probably others. Though I might need Ninetales-A or Togekiss to finish it off. Failing that I'll look for something else.

By the way, I noticed something really weird. Cosmog weighs 0.1 kg. And it evolves into Cosmoem, which weighs 999.9 kg, same as Celesteela. And Cosmoem is 4 inches tall. That's nearly 100 kg per centimetre.
