How many Bank/Public holidays does your country have a year?

Do you feel your country has a good amount of public/bank holidays?

Or do you feel your country deserve/needs more?

Or maybe you feel you feel your country has to many?

What are your thoughts on public/bank holidays?

Why do you feel the way you feel?

In the US we have 10 bank holidays. However, we can still use the ATM and online banking. Some stores offer cash back when you pay for your items. So, banking holidays are no big deal.

We call them public holidays, I have always enjoyed them, especially when working. Not sure if it still happens in my country, I my teen years we would get double or triple pay when you worked on a public holiday, so I often worked on them :) We have 11 a year.

England has ~8 per year, which is lower than others in Europe and some Asian countries.

Interestingly, just a few weeks ago a union was pushing for 4 extra holidays per year, but I am unsure if that will happen (unfortunately!).

I imagine most full-time workers look forward to their next hol.
However, if your employer supports flexible working / working from home, at least you still have some freedom in how you manage your day!

The Czech Republic has 14 public holidays.

BUT! They are fixed dates, which means they can also fall on weekends, so you don't always get the day off ;)

Denmark has 11 public holidays, 2 of them always fall on Sundays, so feel free to count it as 9 instead.

All except 2 fall in the first 5 months of the year, with the last two being Christmas, so there's half a year with none at all.

We have traditions built around our public holidays, so I wouldn't be in favour of removing any of them, but I do feel it's a bit odd going half a year without having any.

If I remember correctly the US observes 12 days in which government offices and banks are closed. This is subject to change each year though.

There are a lot less that actually are paid time off for a lot of companies.
