According to a leaked transcript , the sub was traveling too fast. They heard crackling, and were trying to resolve the issue for around 20 minutes. They tried to ascent but the rate was very slow.

They just need to change the infrastructure (carbon fiber??)and get it approved by next year to continue business. If there aren't any repercussions..(already)

Rush said, the glue holding the sub together was like peanut butter and there wasn't alot of room for error if it failed.

"While classing agencies are willing to pursue the certification of new and innovative designs and ideas, they often have a multi-year approval cycle due to a lack of pre-existing standards ..." Mr Rush wrote on the blog. "Bringing an outside entity up to speed on every innovation before it is put into real-world testing is anathema to rapid innovation."

Thanks!
Interesting and quite chilling... IF it's real, which is of course the big question. We'll probably have to wait for an official statement from OceanGate or the enquiry results to find out, I guess.

Decent analysis of where it appeared and when at:

An old oceangate submersible( The antipodes) is up for sale for 795,000$ . The maximum depth is 1,000 feet.

The antipodes meet the required standards and went on many successful dives where as the titan failed to meet these standards.

“We’re in the process of disassociating ourselves from the vessel because it won’t sell,” he told Insider of his company. “Nobody’s going to be able to sell the submersible for years because of litigation — it’s a waste of my time and has been for five years.”

So, oceangate has(or had) 3 submersibles Antipode, cyclops 1,titan. When the cyclops was being built,Mr Rush decided to sell Antipodes but it wasn't sitting in a shed . Oceangate continued to use it.

It's sad that we all focus on a tin can containing 5 people in the middle of the Atlantic, but can't be bothered to try saving the hundreds that die in the far more easily accessible Mediterranean - because they aren't rich.

This.

The OceanGate tragedy is incredibly sad, but what I found shocking was how little media attention was given to the hundreds of refugees who lost their lives at sea during that same week/time period. Media sensationalism and hype led to a tremendous outpour of emotions, and sympathy for the passengers of OceanGate but with little care for the refugees. I have heard mixed and conflicting information regarding the cause, but the search and rescue efforts between the two were incomparable.

Regarding my general thoughts on the matter, I think the information that has come to light reveals there were clear design issues. The use of carbon fiber and composite materials which change in characteristics/properties under harsh conditions or effectively "degrade" along with other potential design flaws led to the inevitable tragedy of Oceangate. Although there had been successful voyages to the Titanic in the past, as others have mentioned, there's been serious safety concerns that were blatantly ignored.

I give my condolences to the passengers of OceanGate, but I also find it absolutely shocking and disappointing at just how little attention was given toward the hundreds of refugees who lost their lives. The most blatantly obvious differences being their wealth, and social status...likely attribute to very different levels of media coverage and sympathy.

I've heard about this theory too, as well as the implications this would pose in the descent leading to the imposion. The Titan had experienced battery issues in previous voyages. I don't believe there's been official confirmation yet regarding the validity, but it seems that there was knowledge of a likely imposion the same day the communication ceazed.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12296331/OceanGate-CEO-Stockton-Rush-wanted-use-Titan-sub-deep-sea-mining-interview-shows.html

Mr Rush believed his technology could boost oil and gas industries.

'' Rush discussed plans to use the then- untested vehicle to harvest resources from the ocean floor - with hopes of eventually reducing costs for future voyage s''

Wow the website seems to have completely shut down now. There is no access to anything. Before, you could see all the different expeditions ,it was just a red notice on top of the page. Now, it says ''OceanGate Expeditions has suspended all exploration and commercial operations.'' I actually thought it was a temporary thing at first.
