In Runescape Butchery COULD be a sub-skill of Cooking, but in real life it definitely is not.
The Butcher takes a carcass and turns it into something that a cook turns into food. Combining these would be similar to stating that a mill operator is the same as a cabinetmaker as they both work with wood, a paint manufacturer is the the same as a painter because they both work with paint.
Of course there are cabinetmakers that harvest and cut their own logs just as there are painters that create their own paints but these are few and far between.
Please look back 2 pages where Samanthawing posted the job description of a butcher. As I've stated numerous times, Butchers don't cook.
Obviously Runescape isn't real life. But it does seem to be based in a fantasy earth-like setting, which takes me to the point I have repeatedly tried to make here. Whether Butchery could be added as a skill of its own or placed as a subset of Cooking is purely opinion. There are plenty of good arguments to support either opinion.
I happen to believe it would be a good addition to the game as a skill not because I have some great love of butchers but instead because I would like to see more skills in the game, not less. I don't think it would be worth the time for Jagex to add Butchery to Cooking as it would require an almost total redo of the drop system of the game. Why spend the time on this as just an addition to what I believe to be the most diverse skill in the game. It just doesn't make sense.
It's been well over 2 years since our last skill release, and that was more like a big minigame (in my opinion) and I haven't heard a word from Jagex suggestion they are even working on another. Addition skill ideas I've seen include Ranching, Sailing, Musician, Diving, and Assassin to name a few.
It seems to me that Butchery could be added in a way that would support many other skills as I have discussed in great detail in past posts.
