As the Forums are being retired in the near future, it would be great to introduce a fun item to recognise this part of the game's history.

How about a cape , which can be obtained from a suitable NPC, such as those below?

- Lumbridge Sage: NPC known for being a source of info/history, previously a librarian.
- Iffie: Eligible players can obtain the RS Classic cape from her, another historic cape.
- Hans: Sells veteran capes.

Requirements: Posted at least once on the Forums? Or perhaps could be for more regular posters e.g. For those who had at least 1,000 posts.

It would be great if they could have an emblem representing your badge status.

For example, you currently have an
Adamant
badge, therefore you would unlock all cape designs up to the adamant level.

This wiki page shows the different levels and unlocks:

I have thought about this idea in the past, but the only thing that stopped me suggesting it is that people would only come here and spam the forums to unlock higher tiers. Now that we are to lose the forums, I don't think this will be much of an issue any more!

I support.

I support both the idea and A Cole's addition to it!

Lmao Tuffty would probably be out there rocking a one of a kind cape.

This is exactly the issue with that. You'd retroactively reward some more than toxic forum trolls with an ingame accomplisment for their behaviour - and for that you just need to look at the top voted post for the discontinuation post on the RS3 subreddit.

I would support a general cape and maybe even one, which would tell others your post cost - but anything more than that is solely a punch in the face for everybody who eventually was driven out by certain subjects.

^ It's ONE person. Outside of rants there is one person all forumers know, and 2 (maybe 3) slightly known. It's too small a group to argue against an award. Should free trade be removed again due to the people who RWT?

Besides - anyone who would pay attention to / know what the cape tier means would also recognize the person / people you are thinking of lols.

It certainly were quite a bit more in the past, albeit most of them obviously also left over time - and truth to be told - the downfall of the forums at least partially can be attributed to them. And I haven't spoken out against some memorial for the forums, but I don't think it's right to add something, that would reward a certain group of people disproportionally for their malicious insanity, which outright was part of the reasons players were fed up with the forums in the first place.

It scaled evenly. I was active on the forums in the past, more so than now actually, and even in 2006-2011 it was a handful of trolls. Back then the mods were WAY more strict and it was rare to see a griefer with more than a couple hundred posts.

Malicious insanity is stretching it like silly putty. Perhaps it drove you from the forums, but it's definitely not why the forums died or a factor. Forums died due to social media's growth and Jagex's neglect. Had we been given a better profile, organized post history, and improved navigation we'd be seeing a much different picture.

In real life I drive a car that is often used by criminals. Should I not be allowed to own my vehicle because some others with the model bought it with dirty money?

If more than 3 or 4 people on forums with more than a 5k posts upset you to the point of having personal reservations toward active users perhaps the problem can be found inward.

I am probably really referring to an era, in which the forums still were highly active (at least by players, but seeing mods to post something outsides of announcements wasn't that unusual either at least), but moderation already mostly was 'please, please don't do this', hiding posts and at most with some short-termed mute - if at all and only for going all over the board over and over and over again. And when they returned they went on. So obviously players who didn't wanted to endure the bullshit moved to platforms, that objectively are inferior for discussion - and especially for keeping things active for longer than just a short while (I mean - the discontinuation post already disappeared from the reddit top posts after all) - most of the time, but just work better due to their self-regulation.

And yeah - RS wasn't the only forum I've used in the past - but it was the only one, in which I've ever seen something like this going on. So problems obviously lied within it and not players who wanted to use it for what it's intended for. And yeah - not me - I am obviously still there. And else? A couple of dozens of players by now.

Take a look at certain things they have produced or are producing to derail the hell out of threads. Wrong assumptions, stupid one-liners and ludicrous justifications and counter-counterattacks afterwards - that is a combination of malice and insanity - certainly more of the former. Toolbox certainly is bigger for some of them, but that alone produced a lot of posts.

Forums slowed before moderation lightened up, lol. Perhaps the other forums / the communities of were more along the lines of your interests and opinions than the RS community was.

You are, again, only referring to like three people. Perhaps don't take posts here so personally and / or don't react to everything at it's most superficial value. I could actually misconstrue your comment as satire! Your use of "obviously" strongly implies sarcasm to the point I'm even wondering if you are trolling or not.

Heckling a thread may fall under "malice" albeit a more loose usage of the term. "Insanity"? Your use of "obviously" is more insane than rudimentary heckling. Not saying that as an insult - only a comparison to illustrate a point.

Which....all of THIS has deviated from. The point of the thread isn't what killed forums. It's a forum cape. I stand by my opinion that the actions of one hilariously specific and two or three other discernible individuals shouldn't negate the recognition potential of those deserving.
