... because the Old School RuneScape team still knows how to do holiday events.
I used to do RS holiday events on the day of the holiday itself or a day or two before/after it but I've stopped doing that in RS3 lately, for two reasons: 1) The 'events' themselves usually require a grind for a few days, and 2) Because they're just outright disappointing and boring.
This isn't the case with OSRS, thankfully, so I've begun enjoying the OSRS holiday events in the way I used to. This year's Christmas event was big enough that it didn't feel like a "do this for a reward" and more like "help me save Christmas". However, at the same time, it wasn't excessive. The quest didn't make me feel like I had to go across the entire world to get the job done either.
The gameplay of each aspect of the quest had plenty of variety as well. I enjoyed all of it for what it was, but especially the Secret Santa portion because of how it made me remember all of my classic adventures in the area as I had to recall specific characters to give the gifts to.
And then you had the Christmas festival area after the quest was over, somewhere to hang out for a bit and enjoy the Christmas spirit. Plus, the festivity of Falador's decorations as a whole was phenomenal and that's one aspect of modern RS3 events that I really enjoy so I was glad to see it in OSRS as well.
Overall, I really hope that the RS3 team takes notes and starts making holiday events like that again. The whole "it's one and done content" excuse doesn't hold water; it was never an issue before, it's not an issue for the OSRS team (which is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller) so why is it an issue for RS3?
Please, Jagex, keep making events like this in both games!

Haven’t done OSRS event, but I agree with the sentiment of having some story based event, much like the Christmas events of the past.
Did manage to play through Violet is blue too, this year though. It was charming & full of festive spirit. Although the activities were a touch on the mundane side.
Have you played it Jaekob? What did you think of it & is it the kind of event you’re hoping for in Rs3?

The OSRS event really took me back and made me feel like I was still a kid playing RS in the old days, it was a nice blast of nostalgia.
Yes, Violet is Blue Too is actually a great Christmas quest for modern RS, I wish Jagex would still do a holiday quest every year. I don't have a problem with them having a skilling hub type of thing for additional rewards (as long as the grind isn't excessive, as it almost always is) but I want a festive quest for the three major holidays at least.

I never play OSRS but this year I thought I'd check it out / see what they were up to. I did the Christmas event and really enjoyed it, reminded me of the old days. It'd be nice to have that on RS3, even if the event was identical but with updated graphics, I wouldn't complain.
That said, I enjoyed what they did for RS3, it's been a good year for Runescape.

RS3 got off to a really good start (aside from the login issue) but it's just in the last two months or so that Jagex resorted to lazy grindfest events and no real content, which is unfortunate because the rest of the year was fantastic. Even so, all of the holiday 'events' this year were boring grindfests, nowhere near as awesome as OSRS holiday events (especially this Christmas one, which actually references the Halloween event at one part).

Same here, RS3 will probably always be my main game but playing OSRS reminds me of where I wish the RS3 team would go, in terms of the content style.
