up till now anything can give shards besides a few other thing.

what i know is:

Silverhawks dont work
Proteins do work
all dummies work too(combat and skilling)
Any form of skilling works too think about the dwarven tool stuff, invention items to skill etc .
Arch works too but exp gained through lore doesnt if im correct.
im not sure about daily tasks.
for now i havent heard someone get a shard from oyster so idk about that 1 either.
The skilling boss should be able to give the boss shard but ofc not the combat shard because its a skilling thing.(it does give skilling shard)
the bicycle at the temple of sennitisten works i tested it myself got the shard in a hour.
I heard hunting dinos at anacronia works too but its not recommended since it might take longer. trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

What's the current thinking on this quote from Jagex? Could this include re-released Christmas tree hats? I'd always assumed they were confirmed discontinued.

I think Jagex needs to ask those economist friends of theirs about the importance to the economy of sending out clear messages. It seems the OSRS team are doing a better job of that.
