Blue phat 70b or $5,700(70b) in 2020 from illegal gold sites.

Blue phat 140m or $3,400(160m) in 2008 from illegal gold sites.

Blue phat has gone up $2,300 in 13 years.

To me it looks like it is just as hard to get a rare now as it was 10+ years ago. Even if you could take gold out of the game the difficulty to obtaining a rare wouldn't change due to everything else would drop proportionately. But hey what do I know :P

Fair point raised, however it doesn't answer the question the thread poses, which is why the sudden dramatic rise this year.

Not really sure where you pull these numbers from regarding the value of gold but if we follow your logic, blue phat has in fact gone up $3300 in 8 months.

When I returned to runescape after a 10 year break in late March this year, blue phat was trading at around 30b (according to clan chat cc, DC item status thread and discord bot).

Meaning it has risen from 30b to 70b since then. According to what you say regarding the RWT value of gold that would be an increase in value of $3300.

what i find problematic is that an ingame item is getting a real life price. it worries me that players who play this game have to sell a car in real life to buy a paper hat in a game. this sounds a bit dramatic but the average person cant affort that. so people either pvm or give it a go at the duel arena but at the duel arena people get addicted to gambling their money to gain more money which ultimately leaves them with nothing left, thats when they buy gold and try again. but logicly you lose more money from the duel arena compared to just buying the partyhat right away for the car. even tho both options are rather immature. people tend to choose the worst of the 2 and go to the duel arena and get addicted and lose billions.

I just wonder if its all worth it for that paper hat. ive had a few and ive decided that flipping them was worth it more than keeping it. but with the prices right now im surprised people still buy these things. 25-30b for a blue? sure. 27-31b for a yellow... idk.. 36b for a purple.. lool..

i just think people who buy a partyhat now have to really rethink about what they are about to buy and the price that comes with it.
trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

24$ per million gold. Idk what you are smoking. Even back then if you take a look thru old posts on *forums* and from 2008-2011 rwting died from free trade removal. Which had the effect of fully crashing rwt prices. I love how people don't even do proper research before making claims. Smh.

Actually toke my time on the waybackmachine. And found prices from a few sites. 4.39$ per million aka a blue phat was 616$ or less. In 2008, and even lower in 2009, and 2010. And guess what remember flower games and such? Aka gambling. Yea those spikes from 300m to max cash. Again gambling and rwt. People can ignore facts of when massive inflation happened. But not the things that was going on while that happened. Gambling and massive rwt. Aka what duel arena have always been and have massively increased this year.

Lmao real life partyhat costs are cheap af and rookie numbers compared to other discontinued items similar in age for young professional millennials that can afford to relive their childhoods. Just look at the original yu-gi-oh and Pokémon cards nowadays.

Ye i guess so. but would any sane human really spend that much money on a game? the answer is yes, because they are human after all. greed makes us blind. but word plays aside. comparing pokemon or yu-gi-oh with this game is like comparing cartoons to anime. and we all know how that ended since were millenniums.

It doesn't make sense to compare party hats with trading cards. The rare trading cards are a real world commodity which are bought and sold like other vintage things like cars,. They are a physical item and and will continue to have real world value for as long as people have an interest in collecting them, which could be centuries. A party hat is a few 0s and 1s in the database of jagex, they have lived and will die with Runescape.
