I want my avatar back. I heard some people at one point had a way to get the photobooth to trigger an update to their forum avatar, but I never got it to work or what I read possibly never did actually work.

This has been updated and now works!


25 January 2021 (Update):
The issue where players were unable to update their avatar on the Official Forums using the Photo Booth has been fixed.

I think we get a thread close soon, because of grave bumping :P

The avatar rework is also a scrapped project and will no longer be a future update.

Edite: I was wrong and the project is not scrapped.

Not true, not only is Avatar Refresh not a "scrapped project", the Art Team said they are actually looking at extra levels of customization:

"As an example, we're still exploring the possibilities of an avatar refresh, with extra levels of customisation."

Yeah, the Avatar Rework is something that genuinely has interested me since Mod Iroh and his team got to work on it.

Iroh leaving the company -did- put the update momentarily on the shelf, but it has always seemed like Jagex has been intentional about returning to the update as quickly as they could, with, iirc, the newer issues being that there are just so many items in the game that have to be "refitted" to the player rig with the reworked avatar - and that Jagex didn't have the tools in-studio to either re-create the player rig or help them with the re-fitting.

Dilbert's right - this thing is still in the works, but there's no ETA right now.

As for the Forum Avatar, I'd imagine that would be a system they look at when this rework goes live, or at least in the weeks following.

That's only because they have better and top secret projects going for next year. Avatar Refresh wasn't meant to be released in one update anyway. They have always planned to release it in several stages. The first stage may come next year but the final product may not all come in 2022 or 2023.
