You can't buy damaged artefacts. So you still need to spend a lot of time to dig them up.

I leveled Archaeology all the way to 120 without buying a single piece of materials and I actually have a lot spare materials to sell now.

Doesnt mean it isnt a buyable. This is like saying that herblore isnt a buyable as you cant buy everything for that.

Also i fail to see what you not buying anything has to do with point being made.

I mean good on you on choosing to play a certain way.

Either way im ending this here as we're both getting off-topic.

If you fail to see the point then perhaps you should ask OP what skills does he consider "buyable" and "non-buyable" first.

Herblore ingredients are buying as we don't need to farm anything on other own to get to 200 mil xp. Herblore is a buyable skill but Archaeology is not as it will literally takes out forever to get to 200 mil xp herblore without getting the damaged artefacts ourselves.

Gathering skills aren't buyable. Mining is buyable. Neither is Archaeology.

This time around, also properly balance the new skill perks in PVP instead of letting players who are high archaeology level get OP relics in PVP. Thanks.

Archaeology is a general purpose skill which improves the gaming experience of all kinds of game features. Why is it a problem when high archaeology level gives better benefits in PVP (actually combat, not exactly pvp) but high level in other skills like Herblore, Agility, Summoning etc are not problems when they also give advantages to combat/pvp?

I feel like if we were going to get a new skill in March, we would have probably started hearing about it. I know that they like keeping things secret now, but a skill is something they will advertise for a while.

It could still be announce in October, as that is when they sometimes announce big things.

As for the grace period, I really think it depends on the speed of the skill. Archeology was kinda slow going mostly because it was self contained. While you could buy the pieces you needed, it took a lot of time. I think 6 months is a good basis if they were thinking about real life, but they want you to play the game, so I am not sure it will be 6 months.

As for what it could be, there is only two skills that have been suggested over the years that I can think of.

Woodworking - This would give reason to rework Crafting and Fletching which is in a extremly bad position given what we have gotten for other skills.

Barding/Music - This would work with crafting and fletching where we can make instrumentals that could be used to give buffs, or as a skill like hunter/construction and is self contained.. Or make it an elite skill and require crafting, fletching and construction.
Come the Sixth-Age, the world will need the World Guardian.

"RuneScape 3 announced its 28th skill, Archaeology, will be released in January 2020."

Given Archaeology was originally planned to be released in 3 months after RS3 officially announced it, it is definitely possible they can release their next new skill 3 months after they announce it this time too. That said, even if they announce RS3's 29th skill in December, they can still release it in March 2023. To me, I think it will come after March though, unless Jagex really feel the pinch of enormous competitions from the first stage of Metaverse and other big bad games on the horizon and step up their efforts on their new big attraction.

As for what the new skill will be? I absolutely don't think it will be anything remotely close to anything commonly suggested as we can see the last few skills they released, Archaeology, Invention, Divination etc were hardly anybody has thought of and suggested.

New skill is coming out in 2023, not 2024. Perhaps OP's title of this thread needs some adjustment.

"Speaking of skilling, I think it’s also time for us to let you in on a big secret: for some months now, we’ve been working on RuneScape’s next new skill. Yes, you heard that correctly! If all goes well, you’ll be hearing much more about this very soon – so keep your eyes peeled!"
