But you still need certain levels in invention in order to make certain things.
It is not like everything is opened up from level one. I don't see why the entire skill needs to be inaccessible to anyone. It is still an effort to level up and get access to good stuff, like it is in any other skill.
There is a thing I never liked about the whole elite skill concept: The levels of the skills which determine if you can access invention at all are so high that much of the content is bypassed. For instance, you can use any tier of divination energy to make divine charges, but the lower tier you use, the more energy you need. It takes a lot more pale energy than incandescent energy to make a divine charge. So, if you had a low level in divination, it would be much more expensive to make a charge, or take more time to collect it, which makes sense, because things get better as you level up. But, you are never low level in divination, because it requires level 80 in order to start invention in the first place, so you can already collect and use high tier energy from the very start. What happened to using low level energy? You are never in a situation where you can make a divine charge, but are only able to use pale energy, or any other energy below level 80 divination.
We still need high level to start Invention. That's the important thing for using Invention as a gp and item sink. We want low level players to invest and spend their gp and items for lucrative gain when they become high level Inventors. That's why Invention has to be an elite skill, and perhaps the only elite skill because its purpose as gp and item sink is well served. We don't need another one.
