As long as they move threads at will and use such explanations id rather see that as a direct confirmation.
I dont care why you bought those items. The point is that if you despise rare/discontinued items that much, you shouldnt help in their price rising. In such a case of supply and demand, the higher the demand for such limited items the higher their prices go. Merchers simply flip these items when they are first released, then they wait for some time for things to settle and after that they actually start to properly invest. They buy bulk and they limit the supply even more. Then, when someone wants to buy the said item, the stock is even more limited. Those who keep the supply of the rare item make the prices in this scenario. Also, if more people want to buy the items the demand rises and because there is no supply the prices skyrocket. The more people want to buy such an item the higher the price rises.
A rare item in RS is pretty much like Bitcoin. It was worthless at first but then people started to buy it. Because people bought Bitcoin its price went up, because its price went up people wanted to merch/flip it, because people wanted to do that the demand went up, because the demand went up its price kept going up and so on. And just like RS rares, Bitcoin is in limited supply. So rare items prices depend on how many people try to buy them. Thats the main reason some rares randomly start to skyrocket while some stay stable. It is also the reason theres much conflict in RS regarding price manipulation.
