From today's Runescape Newsletter, the new quest being released this month, which will lead to the new Necromancy skill is revealed.

Murder On The Border will require completion of the New Foundations quest as well as all buildings at least T1:

"Oh, and one last thing. You'll want to complete New Foundations and get all your buildings to Tier 1 pretty soon. Your Fort needs to look presentable ready for the second Fort Forinthry release..."

We need not just to complete the New Foundations quest as we were told, but seemingly we also have to make use of the buildings in the Fort too. We have a workshop with furnaces and saws. We have a command center. We have a Townhall. We also have a Chapel with an altar. What are we going to do with them when seemingly we have similar skilling facilities outside the Fort?

I'll guess we are going to make new items that can only be made inside the Forge, perhaps similar to we can only make Dragon Armors on Dragonkin forges.

What do you think? Who is going to die? Whodunit?

The butler, it's always the butler!

Where did you read this btw, I had a look on the homepage but I don't see 'newsletter'.

is skill coming with the quest? I don’t see the relation

If you are talking about Necromancy, I don't think so. It will come AFTER this quest. It is the introduction to the lore behind the new skill and other content (skilling included).

It won't surprise me we may find some clues on what Necromancy is about though, much like Professor Tony's adventure led us to Archaeology.

We know some lore about Necromancy actually way back from the Succession quest:

"Adrasteia:
I don't like this, Player. From what we've found, it seems that the Zamorakians are researching soul magic and necromancy.
Adrasteia:
That sort of power is invariably misused. But when you add in the ritual marker they stole from Senntisten... the big picture starts to get even scarier."

https://runescape.wiki/w/Transcript:Succession

Zamorakians are working on Necromancy, which probably has to do with some ritual of the Mahjarrat. Fort Forinthry is built to defend them obviously. The Ritual is likely associated with the Black Hand, which is also the source of Necromancy itself as we learned from Taraket.

The new quest is the epilogue of Succession which ends with the returning of the Strange Power, and the prelude to Necromancy.

That would be funny. But aren't we a Duke now? Also, perhaps we'll become one of the 12?
And/or be able to command increasingly more powerful types as we level? 12x10=120 skill?
The senntisten ritual marker might be a portal to Infernus, we could command demons from it? but to keep the portal open, we'd have to sacrifice something / claim it's 'soul' / essence. There's a fair bit of lore on the wiki, I suggest people take a read. It's quite interesting.

There isn't even a butler in the Fort.

Yes, we are the DUKE, Duchess or Dux, definitely not the Butler.

The ritual marker of the Majharrat is more than likely something that will open up certain "rift" to bring back the Strange Power associated with the Rift at the bottom of the Daemoheim dungeon.

The Succession quest noticeably has already guided us to Necromancy. On top of the revelation of the ritual marker and Necromancy, we are also told about Necromancy when examining the bones in the Magister's chamber, as well as the even more interesting remark on what's being undead and how souls are trapped:

"Adrasteia:
Necromancy. It's a staple of the Zamorakian forces, so why do they need to read up on it here?
Player:
Are they looking for new techniques and rituals?
Adrasteia:
No, I don't think so. This is more of a discourse on what it means to be undead, what happens to trapped souls... Terrible, really.
Player:
Sounds like they're branching out from their usual tricks, then?"

So Necromancy is far more than just bringing back the dead, but we should be able to have more precise knowledge of the dead, undead, and what actually happen dead NPCs. We will be communing the dead, and know what their societies are actually like.

We have learned a lot about different cultures and civilizations like Gods, Mahjarrat, Dragonkin, Elves etc in RS3 so far, but what about Dead and Undead? Perhaps it is about time when we get to Necromancy. :)

"What are we going to do with all of the other buildings than the Workshop that's available after the completion of New Foundations?"

I really like that having a fully constructed Fort Forinthry is a requirement for a "Whodunnit" murder mystery because it increases the amount of area that will probably be involved with the plot of the quest. If players weren't required to build the Town Hall, Chapel, and Command Centre - Jagex could only lay clues within the workshop...and a bunch of empty space. The full fort being constructed means that clues require walls or furnishings will be intractable.

Boiling this one down, the full Fort requirement = the boundaries of the mystery involve the entirety of the area.

"Who's the Vic?"

Our deceased is likely to be a Misthalinian royal or someone of considerable importance in the area - because this murder is to take place in a very typical "whodunnit" setting - a dinner party. (which is why the Town Hall in particular is important to have built.)

That roster of potential dead "nobility" is as follows then.

> The player, who is the host of the party and the Duke(chess/-ux) of Fort Forinthry.
> Roald, King of Misthalin, seated in Varrock.
> his wife, Queen Ellamaria.
> Horatio, Duke of Lumbridge.

(Obviously, the player won't be the one dying as we're the detective - and King Roald would be....pretty bold. Possible, but of this top-tier group of guests' most likely targets are probably Duke Lumbridge or Ellamaria.)

What about high-ranking officials and representatives of surrounding infrastructure - who could also be invited?

> Captain Rovin, of the Varrock Palace Guard.
> Chieftain Gunthor, of Gunnarsgrunn.
> Brugsen Bursen, founder of the Grand Exchange.
> Curator Haig Halen, of the Varrock Museum.
> Terry Bolando or Reina Reineger, high ranking archaeologists.
> Mandrith or Vannaka, Slayer Masters based out of Edgeville.

Fort inhabitants: Bill, Aster, Siv, and Father Flint.
