We've just had the first Necromancy teaser video today, and it explains that there is a way for skillers to train the skill and make money whilst doing so.

That's great to hear!

However, as Necromancy is a combat skill, and combat skills generally increase combat level, this means that doing this "skilling" activity will most likely increase ones combat level. Now, I'm not saying that all skillers stay at a particular combat level, but a considerable number do.

So this begs the question:
Is Necromancy useful to skillers
?

Does it give a benefit when training other non-combat skills?

Does it offer better rewards at higher levels when partaking in the non-combat aspect?

If the answer to these questions is "no", then why would a non-combat skiller take part in Necromancy?

It seems like the antithesis of Summoning - a skill useful to skillers but almost entirely dependable on combat to be able to train it.

The reason I ask this question now is that I believe there may well be a reasonable way of including useful skilling aspects into Necromancy given how it looks to be structured. The tree format could have a skilling branch, and I'm fairly certain that all cities - even the undead cities - need more than just killers to thrive. From Lumberjacks to Explorers, Chefs to Thieves, when summoned, they could help you with your Woodcutting skill, Clue Hunting, Cooking, or Pickpocketing.

From what I've seen in the video, Necromancy can be developed into a much more far reaching skill than the boss-killing skill it looks to have been designed to become. I hope I am wrong in this statement, but as a skiller, I have not seen anything I'd be interested in - yet .

I am sure skillers can at least make good money training Necromancy through Rituals. They don't have to do a thing with combat if they don't want to. They also unlock skill trees doing so. Making money and unlocking new perks of course are beneficial to skillers.

My question is pertaining to these perks.

Do the perks help with non-combat?

This is not yet clear.

AFAIK the perks do benefit skillers, and not only that, through training Necromancy skillers unlock quests and other activities, perhaps like new minigames in the City of Um to get even more benefits.

Have you got a source for this information?

Hopefully there won't be any new group minigames, especially if they're locked behind quests/skills. I'm all for new solo minigames, but group minigames died a death a long time ago.

". As a hero of Gielinor, you won't be enslaving the dead - you'll be allying with them! As you grow stronger in your Necromantic powers, you'll be able to free more of the residents of the City of Um, who will not only support you in combat, but also repopulate the City as it comes to... uhh... life, once more"

Necromancy is not about enslaving undead for combat purpose. When we gain Necromantic powers, we repopulate the City of Um and unlock other content.

This statement very carefully does not mention the words "non-combat skills".

If the intention was to open Necromancy to all skills, they'd have made that abundantly clear here. They didn't.

Repopulating the city could simply mean that we'll have access to more shops, Slayer Masters, and Grand Exchange - basics of most other new cities in recent years.

They aren't opening Necromancy to all skills. What they clearly indicated is training Necromancy is not just for combat, but for unlocking all kinds of activities and repopulating the City of Um.

They already told us there are 7 quests, not just shops and slayer master. Please watch the official Necromancy reveal videos.

I have watched the video.

I am well aware that there will be things opening up and this thread is not about that.

I am asking about whether non-combat skills will be getting any benefits similar to how combat skills will get a benefit from Necromancy.

So far it seems like they won't.

I doubt if we get boss drop through Rituals in Necromancy, but why should we? There are common benefits we can do with both skilling and killing in Necromancy, but there are also different benefits when we progress through the 2 paths.
