I'll reserve judgement for when it actually drops but frankly, I'm NOT happy with Jagex's stance on holiday events for the past few years. Very briefly, for an Easter and Christmas event, it really did look like they were going back to the way things should be but then they went back to the dreadfully boring GrindScape events with a festive skin.
We're basically getting both. There going to be a few short miniquests which give rewards (already confirmed to be a wolf pet and "Death's Silver Scythe", and the miniquests from last year's Hallowe'en event are returning), like the old days, while also having grinding content to gather things like old cosmetics and presumably stars, lamps, and mystery boxes for those who want them.
It's basically designed to have something for pretty much everyone. Only want to do the miniquests? That's fine, you can spend probably about half an hour to pick up your wolf pet and scythe and be on your merry way. Only want to train your skills? That's fine, you can grind if you want and pick up some old cosmetics if you missed them. Don't particularly care about the holiday but are interested in some passive XP buffs for training in a specific area every couple of hours like the Beach's happy hours? You can take advantage of that too if you want, with added XP bonuses if you completed those miniquests.

As I said, I'll reserve actual judgement for after release but from what it sounds like, it sounds like yet another boring "event" and the "quests" are more in line with what you see in other MMOs than in RS.
Hopefully those miniquests are actually along the lines of the older holiday events (those events were super special and were something Jagex used to brag about) and not just fetch quests or boring grinding in the festive hub. I can't stand Jagex's recent approach to events (festive and other), honestly. It takes the inherent grind already present in the game and makes it a million times worse.

RS3 is an MMO. I don't see how are MMO-ish quests (note, quests, more than just 1 quest) boring when they are in line with the ones we have seen in RSC, RS2 and OSRS.
Closing this as it is no longer a "Future" update.
If you have additional feedback or discussion points on this event, please use the
Recent Game Updates Forum
for those, as that is where Jagex will be looking for them.
